More Details

The Helium Hotspot is a hardware device that uses LongFi to connect low power, IoT devices to the internet over miles of range. The Hotspot sends and receives small amounts of data to compatible devices over sub-GHz radio waves and is not a Wi-Fi replacement.

LongFi Wireless Protocol

Helium LongFi is a new open, wireless protocol optimized for miles of range, and long battery life for IoT devices.

Proof-of-Coverage

Hotspots earn Helium when devices connect and for validating wireless coverage delivered by peers. Using a system called Proof-of-Coverage, Hotspots earn more Helium when they are in range of other Hotspots. Range depends on the environment, for rural areas up to 10 miles or more, but for more dense areas up to a mile.

Hotspot Features

Mining with Radio

Just for providing wireless coverage Hotspots earn a new cryptocurrency, Helium.

Miles of Coverage

Hotspots can create wireless coverage using radio waves over many square miles.

Energy Efficient

Hotspots are energy efficient using about the same amount of power as an LED light bulb (5W).

Scales to Thousands

A single Hotspot can support thousands of connected devices.

Cover your city in miles of wireless coverage

Deliver many square miles coverage from a single hotspot

Based on initial testing, only about 50 to 100 hotspots are needed to provide complete coverage for an entire city.

Connect Anything

Create a new global network for billions of devices

Any IoT device can become Helium-enabled using readily available off-the-shelf hardware components, software, and a reference design that is open source for anyone to improve on.
