This is a zone that I visit quite often. I am really interested in older homes and Real Estate. Visit http://www.helium.com/zone/2024-ncs-inspections-inc-real-estate-forum for another perspective on the market.

Jim, I don't know anything about architecture but I enjoyed the trip down memory lane. My aunt was a curator at the Eastman House for many years so that building is very familiar to me. Thanks! Abby

Thanks, Ethel. Mine is far less grand. You can see a glimpse of it as the thumbnail for the Home & Garden Stewards Zone, in fact. I've linked to your English mansions zone in Resource Links, top and right. Sue, thanks for visiting -- I love your article, included here!

Wow. Own up then, which one is yours. Love this place and will link it to my stately homes of england. I think they will complement each other nicely.

Great "walking tour"! With a squint, we could slip back into another age viewing old beauties -- the best part of preserved neighborhoods, perhaps. A lovely thought: any of you "architectural junkies" (great phrasing, Olivia) live near other areas of preserved homes? An whole string of historic neighborhood tours would be a fantastic grouping. Cleveland/Shaker Heights, anyone? Chicago? Charleston, SC? Some older parts of Portland OR, are lovely, built on picturesque winding streets that wander up and down hills -- have had intriguing glances. Love driving through (even better -- walking through) residential areas when travelling. Were I better at photography, Grand Rapids, MI, has a large historical district that could be documented (includes 2 F.L. Wright examples, one meticulously retored by Steelcase and periodically open to the public). Molly, that's why house and/or garden tours are great fun. Publicly sanctioned voyeurism (and usully in the name of

This page is fantastic! Like Olivia, I'm also an architectural junky. When we were in Victoria, B.C., we loved to drive around looking at the old architecture. If you're ever that way, you should check it out. I'm sure to come back again and again to see what you added:)

Believe it or not, Andrew, I did design and build a fairly large Victorian home in the Queen Anne style. Three stories, five porches, white and gray with pink accents. You can see a winter image of it, here: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UXBI_WK2rNaCX0Ait4MTtg?feat=directlink Our current home is here: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/76sXg3vn6LeZKkStBvc6qg?feat=directlink

Wow!! Just came across this by accident (okay, confession: I was checking to see if I had any articles in Zones!) and I LOVE the pics! Gosh, if only I weren't locked into St. Louis for the time being....

Thanks for visiting to Tim, Diane, MJ, Molly, Alex, Kathleen and Olivia. This one was a labor of love. More pics to be added over time. Aren't big, old houses amazing?

That's a thumbs-up from me, Jim. My favorite Rochester area house is at Sonnenburg Gardens. You're quite the photographer. Any mansions that show actual addresses can be viewed at street level through GoogleEarth.

When I first saw the page, I caught my breath! This is fantastic! I love looking at houses like this and trying to imagine the floor plans. What would be even better than imagining would be walking through and actually seeing... I'll settle for getting to see them like this, though. I love it!!!

There is no doubt that colorful and interesting photos can make or break a zone. VERY well done, Jim! Living in the west, I do miss seeing homes like these, real gems, that I hope will always be valued.
