When asked to write, many would shun the task and such folks include teachers. "But I am a teacher, not a writer," would be the common excuse. Pause here if you are a teacher and especially if you are a teacher of the English Language.

Imagine your student telling you, "But I am not growing up into an English Language teacher! I want to be a pilot when I grow up and I won't need to write letters in the air!" What would you say to your student?

Many teachers do not realize the power of the pen, or in today's technology-driven world, that of the keyboard. The power is in you - you move the pen, you move the keyboard. As an English Language teacher, you have the power to write and to motivate your students. You must love what you are doing if you want to teach well.

"But I read better than I write. I can tell my kids all about Shakespeare, but don't ask me to write."

Do you see irony in the sentence? The teacher is but a step to writing! Telling is simply verbalisation of what is in you and writing is putting in black and white what you are verbalising.

I rest my case.

I would never have been able to achieve the writing standards that I have without Helium.com in my life. I stumbled upon it while seeking an online writing column to hone my writing skills. I have progressed to longer and more SEO-optimised writing. I have also been able to learn from the many professional writers here on writing to the various genres.

How has it benefited me as an educator? My personal experiences and experimentations at writing have helped me become a better language teacher. My school children enjoy reading my articles although they do not grasp much of what I've written as English is a foreign language to them. Nevertheless, they are inspired to read and write. They improve in their grades and they realize that there is a functional purpose to learning the English Language.

How has it benefited me as a mother? When my son sees me at Helium.com, he knows it is my 'studies time'. He has been inspired to write his own stories and to improve in the English Language which is also a foreign language to us.

Why not join Helium.com and discover for yourself how your life will be greatly enriched? I am certain you will NEVER regret coming onboard the great online community. As with all communities, there will be times when there are interpersonal irkies. Do not be unduly upset. As a mature adult, let us be forgiving and forgetting the bad and just move on. We are after all human beings on a virtual network - relationships are two-ways and are really up to both to make or break. :) Just remember that the purpose of coming on board Helium.com is to become a better writer and earn a few dollars here and there, and you will have an eternally happy life here in the community.

Peace
