Writing, writing, writing, . . . . My husband thinks I do nothing else! One thing I learned about us -- I write; he talks, and never the twain shall meet. My husband often thinks out loud because that's how he processes things. I often forget to say things out loud that I should because I process things inside my head and through my writing. I guess it's that opposites attract thing going on.
He is an eloquent speaker; I am an eloquent writer. If I need to make a speech, I must write it out and "read" it. He on the other hand has difficulty writing. Isn't it funny how God creates all this diversity and then puts two people together who come from different planets. I can hear him laughing now!
Speaking of God laughing.... Did you know God can giggle like a school girl? A few years ago, my husband was in a serious accident that left him off work for a year. During that time, God took care of our every need. If a bill came in, money to pay it would come in from some unexpected source. Our best story about this time, however, involves turkeys. Yes, I said turkeys.
Not the live birds, but the frozen ones. Holiday time was approaching (the accident was in June) and we had no money. Someone gave us a turkey (and a few groceries). My husband, the king of cheap meat, still had two turkeys in the freezer he had purchased the year before after the holidays at a discounted rate. With two turkeys, we really didn't need another, so we gave the new turkey away to someone in need. The next day, two turkeys showed up at our house! God bless generous people!
We decided to give these turkeys away as well, and soon we had 4 turkeys we had to find homes for. We think about 15 turkeys made their way though our home that year. We finally stopped giving them away so the cycle would end!
One evening I was alone in the kitchen, washing dishes and thanking God for His goodness. When thinking over the turkey problem, I heard God laugh. No, I heard God giggle! This was a life-changing moment for me. I realized how much fun God had orchestrating the meeting of our needs and it changed my view of God and showed me truly how He delights in giving gifts, taking care of, His children.
I've had many God-stories in my life, but this one was a defining moment in my Christian growth. I'll never forget the day I "heard" God giggle.
