Zone TAKING BACK AMERICA > Blog Post

Recent events have made a painful but clear rationalization for why this country needs to establish English as a National language.  If only as a show of respect for those Americans who immigrated from other countries and took pride in becoming total Americans by learning the language, our government has an obligation to its citizens, to ensure that they are able to communicate publicly and enjoy that one equality in the workplace.

That we do not have a national language segregates a population that considers itself a "melting pot".  A melting pot, by definition, indicates a blending and that blend becomes clabbered with the addition of several languages.

Unfortunately, we have become a nation of nations, meaning that suddenly we are overwhelmed with immigrants who, rather than desire to assimilate, feel within their rights to establish a smaller version of the country they no longer felt comfortable in and fled from.  It is time we returned to the days when the first priority of anyone immigrating to this country was to learn to speak English.  That was the primary factor in achieving the "American dream".  It was the best and quickest way to be accepted and acquire the privileges of being part of the American culture.  Never was there an effort to deny those who came here, the right to honor and preserve their own culture or heritage but were expected to adhere to the policies and customs of American society.

Today, due to the laxity of government enforcement of our immigration laws, the growth in population (much of which is illegal) and the economy, we are faced with societal issues that threaten the fabric of American citizenry as we have come to know it.  We are no longer the bubbling melting pot but a ticking bomb.  Two events that are perfect examples of this are the Virginia Tech Shooting by Seung-Hui Cho and the more recent massacre in Binghamton, NY by gunman Jiverly Voong.  We must not forget The Beltway Snipers of the DC area, John Allen Muhammad a member of the Nation of Islam and Lee Boyd Malvo.

Those who enter this country by illegal means, represent a ballooning criminal element.  Once here, the crime continues against America and its citizens by way of more broken laws and staggering costs to our taxpaying base.  Many who are in the country legally (often by default) show no more respect of our laws and customs than those here under illegal circumstances.  We are seeing an insolent disregard for our customs and our laws… but of more immediate concern are those who come here with a malicious agenda.

Our country is being ravaged by this new breed of immigrant and one of the most basic forms of recognizing them is language.  It is time our government takes the initiative to protect us and legislation Of English as our national language is as an appropriate place to begin.  Our failure to establish English will continue to result in the escalating costs and quality of education, loss of jobs and disintegrating healthcare system.
