HI, My name is Mary Tyrer. Stop in and get to know me.

Welcome, I hope you enjoy getting to know a little about me

Take a glimpse into my life, loves, passions, and opinions.

I am the of six grown boys, sadly I lost my youngest son in a tragic accident on June 14, 2010. He was my baby he died one day before his 21st birthday and I will always be heartbroken at the loss of my littlest boy, who loved to make everyone smile, and never let anyone forget that he was the baby when he would say, " I'm the baby, gotta love me." I will see you in that better place one day soon. I know you are in good company with gram and Krys.

David we all miss you much and I love you so very much. Rest in peace my baby. I will love and miss you forever. Mom.

I would like to send a note to my Gram, a wonderful woman. I lost my grandmother in March 2010 she was not in good health, she was 86 years old, and we were close. I miss her, and wish she was still with us. However, I know that is selfish because I know she is happy and out of pain. I hope she knows how many people love her and miss her and this world lost one more person from the greatest generations that America has ever had. I love you gram, and will miss you forever. I am sure you are teaching grandpa Skippo.

I am and have been a Tigger collector since the age of 14. My collection numbers close to 700 Tiggers from all over the world. My collection of Tigger’s keeps me young at heart! How could a person not feel young at heart with a silly orange and black, bouncy, silly cute, lovable, cuddly guy everywhere I look! The thing I love most about my Tigger collection is over 95% of my collection have been gifts over the years, that is what makes it so special and dear to my heart. I am a native of Las Vegas, and love my hometown.

I love old black and white movies, Criminal Minds, Law and Order SVU, and country music, how could I not, I grew up on country music. My father played the guitar and sang I remember his beautiful voice when I was young he would have his band over and I loved listening to my dad  and his band sing and play for hours. The Eagles are my all time favorite band. I have always wanted the chance to see the Eagles in person. Finally, in April 2010, I had the chance to see them live at the Hollywood Bowl. They were every bit as good as I imagined they would be, it was my dream come true!

I love to write. When I have free time and try to fill that time writing about things that interest me. I graduated on April 30th, 2011. I find that I had so much writing for school I had less time to write articles for Helium. Exploring a new life is overwhelmingly fun and keeps me very busy. Nonetheless, I will always find time to post a few articles here and there. I love the theater, an hope to make it to New York one day to see a play on Broadway, instead of Broadway San Diego. Although I loved every minute of going to plays in San Diego, New York has to be so much more amazing.

The world is getting very small, after about 30 years I found my Uncle Bobby Tyrer, my father’s brother. I talked to my father after almost 21 years. I think my Uncle Bobby T, is wonderful! I am happy I had the chance to talk to my dad. This is such a strange life at times...what is that song This Crazy, Awful, Terrible, Wonderful, Life I Have....I am not sure of the title but it is something like that. I think that sums up just about every ones life at one point or another. As it does mine. So now, you know a little bit about me. I hope you will take a little time and read a little bit of my work, I write my feelings what troubles me, what I love, and what I know best. I hope you enjoy.

Thank you for stopping by.

Introduction to Cross-cultural Psychology

Personal traits and distinctive characteristics, is what make a culture unique among itself. Culture is how people within a group of like attitudes, behaviors, and symbols are communally within a certain division or sect of people that normally is in a like fashion from one to the next (Feist, 2009). Put in other terms culture is not composition humanity rather a group of hereditary attributes like a person’s race, or a common inherited beginning, that will include, but not always, language, or religion. However, additional backgrounds will construct the continuing characteristics that make up culture. Culture is not as simple as the few items on this list, yet an all-inclusive clarification of culture is becoming harder to define. Cross-culture Psychology is a psychological culture of intertwining relationships, crossing the boundaries of race, religion, foods, methodologies and the role that critical thinking plays a part in cross culture psychology. ... High school graduation party theme ideas

By

Mary Tyrer

My last son is getting ready to take that final walk, ending his high school days. I want him to have fond memories of the final party he will have with his high school friends. I remember my favorite party that my parents and my friend's parents gave us so many years ago. This memory is special to me; my hopes are that it will be a special memory to my son and his friends as well. I am telling my son to invite five couples, with him and his girlfriend that will be eleven of his closest friend for a private party of twelve. I am contacting all of the parents on that list. Without the kids knowing the parents have had a few meetings, the kids know we are planning something, though they are not sure what it could be. My son is given invitations to pass out to his graduating classmates to attend his graduation party.I am telling my son to invite five couples, with him and his girlfriend that will be eleven of his closest friend for a private party of twelve. Autism

autism
by Mary Tyrer
Statistics show that a male child is more likely to be diagnosed with autism than a female child. Yet there is no explanation for this phenomenon. There are those who believe the reason for the growing cases of autism is caused by the vaccinations our children must receive at birth, and must have to into our children into child care, and the school systems, most believe the mercury in the vaccines.
There are many varying degrees of autism. From being dysfunctional to the point the child cannot be potty trained, or speak a word and will not let anyone touch them; to the higher functioning autistic child that can speak and participate in various activities. These children can be affectionate, and seem to form attachments to others they feel most comfortable. Read More...

Tigger Song

Really now you didn't think you would get off this page without seeing this song did ya?
Sometime when your having a bad day or, just remember these words and they should help bring a smile to your face!
A wonderful thing is a Tigger;
A Tigger's a wonderful thing.
Their tops are made out of rubber,
their bottoms are made out of spring
They're bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, bouncy,
fun, fun, fun, fun, fun,
The most wonderful thing
about Tiggers is:
I'm the only one!

Is the slang use of the word

  • Why do people need to be cruel and use words like retard or retarded? Personally, I take offense of the use of the terms retard and retarded. Retard is used as slang in most instances meant to degrade a person. Most of the time the words retard or retarded are used in reference to a disabled individual. Retarded is also offensive, being a word from the past before there were answers and names given to people with different disabilities. I worked with special needs children. There is a name ...Read more...

A beginners guide to collecting Tigger memorabilia

It is important to understand the history for true Tigger collectors, especially for beginners. The transition caused the look and the role of Tigger to change drastically over the years. A true Tigger collector knows the history of Winnie the Pooh did not begin with Disney. A.A. Milne wrote a serious of stories for his son; Christopher Robin and E. H. Shepard did the original illustrations. The stories centered on Christopher and his favorite stuffed animals. Christopher Robin is the best friend of Pooh, Christopher appeared in many stories with other friends from the Hundred Acre Woods, Owl, Eeyore Tigger  Piglet, Rabbit and of course Tigger. The storiesand poems were a favorite of children from around the world from the time the stories were published in 1926. Walt Disney started animating the characters in the 1968.

Although A. A. Milne's stories were written about Christopher Robin and his stuffed friends according to Peter Dennis, "A. A. Milne didn't write the stories and poems for children. He intended them for the child within you and me and countless millions of others. Milne rarely read the stories and poems to his son Christopher, preferring rather to … Read More

Which is the best Rock band in the world

EaglesI am sure many will not agree with me, however I have loved the Eagles since the early 70s and my love for their music has never changed. The Eagles have always been my favorite group. Not only for the sound of the music have they produced. In addition, each member of the group is in tune with the world and does his part to help make our world a better place to live. The Eagles often use their music to help keep the public aware of political, humane, or environmental issues, and act to help protect or revolutionize an issue. For that reason, I enjoy the music the Eagles make together and respect the men who bring us their gifts of awareness, and the musical talent share with us ... Please read on I have finally seen the Eagles!

Deviance and society

The meaning of retribution is having society making the crime fit the punishment, revenge from society for one that has committed a moral or criminal crime. The punishment or revenge should fit the crime.
Poor Hester wrote in A vogue for shaming wrongdoers, in his article a college student who had was caught drinking, and having a keg, also under age that a police officer made the student dress in his toga and remain in front of the police station for a certain amount of time for his deviant behavior. (Hester, 2006) One has to ask was that the appropriate punishment for the crime committed, or was this just a joke to the student that committed the act.

According to Hester this punishment did fit the crime causing the student such embarrassment that the student would think twice before committing such an act again.
It seems more and more police officers are treating college
students in this manner to make them understand what they have done is wrong and the punishment does fit the crime. Some are doubtful though it has seemed to work in many circumstances. (Hester, 2006)
BanditDeterrence:
Since deviance is a disruption of the social norm, that society controls, people rationalize that deterrence will work opting to cause pain as a deterrence to control the deviant behavior of ones that choose to go against societies norms.

Teaching life skills in the elementary school classroom

Simple life skills such as how to count money to purchase items from the store is very important for children to learn early in life. Simple math projects where the children can interact with one another and their teacher is fun for the children. The children will learn while they are playing simple games they enjoy. Even board games like Monopoly are now geared for younger children to learn these skills.
Learning not to go with a person the child does not know has become a life skill that all adults should teach and practice with their children. Children need to learn early they should never go with a stranger explained in simple language and being repetitive with children they will understand the importance of not going with people that may harm them. As an adult or teacher, this must be practiced repeatedly and often to ensure the child
understands the importance of the issue.Teaching a child the simplest of tiggerandpooh teacherthings that adults take for granted are essential. A child must know his or her address, phone number, how to get from school to home in case they get lost. All of these life skills are so simple they are often overlooked and not taught to children who are of early elementary school age. Many of these skills will be taught by the parent, however it is wise when a teacher follows up and makes sure the children know these basic skills.
Other areas of life skills that can be developed during a child's elementary school years are social. Teaching children how to share, speak in turn, and be courteous of others are skills that can be fine-tuned during the early years of education. Respecting their peers, playing together and working together in groups and helping one another are all life skills that children are taught in school and at home, they are not taught as a class subject; however, these skills will help them throughout their entire life.

Autism

many varying degrees of autism. From being dysfunctional to the point the child cannot be potty trained, or speak a word and will not let anyone touch them; to the higher functioning autistic child that can speak and participate in various activities. These children can be affectionate, and seem to form attachments to others they feel most comfortable.
Some signs that a child is autistic is a child's inability to make eye contact, inability to speak or show emotion, often seeming to be in a world his or her own. Some are able to speak, children with autism that are able to speak often-put words together, although the words do not have any structure and make no sense in the way they are put together. This is not uncommon for children of autism, often-autistic children will repeat themselves over and over.
Many children with autism find comfort is doing the same activity repeatedly. The higher functioning autistic child may put the same puzzle together many times, refusing to change puzzles. For the lower functioning autistic child he or she may find a musical book or toy and continually play the sound, finding comfort in the music, or noise the book or toy makes.
There is a bright spot for both the higher and lower functioning autistic child, both are very intelligent given time and patients these special children  are able to learn. The trick is finding something the child likes to play with and use the item such as a puzzle, toy or whatever holds their interest to peek their curiosity to teach the child other important life skills.
This article originally written almost two years ago, at that time one of 25 children were born with autism, that number has climbed to one out of 150. Although science and families are finding ways to help autistic children, and educators are beginning to help teach the child with autism. The fact is the cause of autism must be found soon. Many believe it is the environment, others believe it is food additives, and still others believe vaccinations are the cause. At the rate of 150  to one, science may have waited too long to study the problem before a larger percentage of the next generation are born with autism.

Testimonies: I'm the black sheep of the family

 By

Mary Tyrer

Sadly I know I am the black sheep of my family, never wanting that distinction it just attached itself to me. When I was young and until I was a junior in high school, I was my mother's favorite, I knew it and so did my brothers and sisters. Not only did they know that I was my mothers favorite, my mother was so blatant about showing her favoritism toward me. My brothers and sisters harbored great resentment toward me, and they still do. I do not blame them one bit, though it does hurt me.

When I was eleven my father left our family, my mom was left to raise six children on her own. She had not worked since she was a teenager. She was thrown into having to work two jobs, and I was taken out of school 3 days a week to watch my brothers and sisters. My brothers and sisters ranged in age from 4 month to 9 years old. I cooked, cleaned, did the laundry, and made sure my brothers and sisters got off to school, did their home work and anything else that came up.
When I was 13, my mom married and I was allowed to be a regular teenager. I tried out for cheerleader and got to go to school on a regular basis. The wall began to build, my mom would bring special things home for me, and leave out my siblings. The wall began to get ever higher. At 15, I got a job and became very independent. Now the wall started to build between my mom and I, the wall was already there between my siblings and me.
My siblings became very close to one another, and I was on the outside, the animosity that was building because my mom was still buying me things, neglecting the needs of my brothers and sisters. Because of this and many other reasons I was not a part of my siblings group, I was on the outside looking in. My mom got angry when I told her to spend the money on my sisters and brothers because I had a job and they needed things. That sparked a long period of angry silenced between my mother and me.
Instead of my mother buying things for my siblings, she would buy herself clothes and model them in front of everyone. I got very angry. I could not understand why or how she could act that way.
The summer between my junior and senior year of high school, I was getting it from both sides, my siblings angry with me and locking me out of their ever tight, close-knit group; my mom and I not speaking because I had told her how I felt about the way she was acting toward my siblings. She took this as an insult, I had told her she was being very selfish and she was offended.
At seventeen, I moved out. Living with a good friend and her family, I did not invite my mom to my graduation, though I saw her there, I did not see her or anyone in my family for almost a year. That is how it has been since I was seventeen, and it has only gotten worse with time. My mom and I do not speak at all and I have little interaction with my brothers and sisters. I see how other families function and am sadden when I think of my own situation.
I crave the closeness that I have missed. I miss having a sister or brother that I can share things. The wounds are to deep and I am not sure they will ever go away. That goes for both my siblings and my mother.

People I love and mean most the to me

Spring activities for families with special needs children

Special needs children love many of the same activities as any other child. Spring offers the outdoor fun for everyone. Families who have a child with special needs have the opportunity enjoy outdoor activities with extended family members and friends. Warmer weather allows families to gather outside for a Bar-B-Q, inviting special friends and family to share in the outdoor fun.

Spring is a time  tigger in bubbles       when nature begins to change. Everything is growing and turning green. Spring is a great time to take a camping trip, go fishing, and simply be together enjoying being together as a family loving the new season. Children who are in wheelchairs due to their disability are able to enjoy the outing. Parents should not restrict the special needs child from such outings. Parents should carefully plan the outing according to their child's extra needs, yet never make the child feel as though he or she is unable to do anything. ...Please Read on...

While she patiently waits by the door, she sits with anticipation finding it hard to sit still. Looking out the window peaking through the curtains from time to time she waits. Pacing the floor off and on nervously, she waits. She accidentally broke his favorite mug, and worries he will be angry, but hopes he will not notice. With excitement, she quietly waits and wonders why he's late. Slowly darkness fills the room as she snuggles in his chair unable to sleep she hears every sound hoping it will be him. The night is still and lonely as her concern begins to grow. He had never left her alone this long before; she doesn't understand why he is not home. Night turns into day and still she is alone. She's sure he wouldn't leave her. Yet again darkness comes, and she is still alone. She fell into a fitful sleep when the sound of keys jingling at the door slowly waking her. Memoirs: Death of a mother's youngest son

What can anyone possibly say or do to ease the pain of a mothers lose of a child. Better-phrased entire families lose of a son. He the youngest of six was the one that never let anyone down or anyone frown, he was the clown although as his mom I knew how torn and broken he was inside, yet he would never dare let anyone see. DAVID MICHAEL RITZERHis brother only one year older they were as close as best friends could be, and nothing or no one could break the bond they shared. Until the night of my son the youngest one’s death, he did not have the chance to say good-bye, and everyone’s life is now turned upside down. Of course, we had our fights as parents and children do, but no matter what happened he always knew I loved him unconditionally. At 17 when he told me that I sat down and cried because I knew he finally understood the love I had for him and all of my boys inside is strong and although I know most judge me, I will forever love them unconditionally regardless of how any of them act toward me. I hurt for my son who fought with his brother hours before my youngest son’s death, they were so close I hurt for him and everyone who feels the loss of my baby boy who died the day before he turned 21.He was torn all his life between his father and I, I find it so sad that he had to hide all the love he had for me from one side of the family. Looking back oh what a very bad juvenile preteen agotta love mend teen he really could be, how many times he did stupid things to get himself locked up. Through all that he did, I loved him as I love all my sons whether we are close personally or not. No matter what happened my youngest made sure to let me know he loved me every chance that he got. So many times he would beg me not to tell his dad or his brothers and I couldn’t, I was just happy I knew how much he loved me. So many memories where do you put them, do I break the bond that we had and tell all the things we secret things we shared, or do I keep them to myself, is that a selfish thing to do?  He was the wild child, yet he did take care of me in so many ways in the short time we were together. He had to remind me almost every time we would see one another,  "I’m the baby gotta love me." Yes, David you will always be my baby and I will always love you.

David Michael

As soon as I am out of the nursing home I will be putting a slide show of David here, I cannot get to my pictures or I would have done it already. If any of you have pictures you  want me to include in the slide show send them to me at mjtyrer@aim.com.
Love you forever David!
