Sometimes a pen and a napkin is all you need. Other times you need a bit more than that...

A warm welcome for Creative writers of all sorts

by Brendan Adkins, Flkr

What do you see in this picture?

All good writers are creative writers, because they seek to create words and thoughts that will meet the needs of their readers.

The writer whose goal it is to give information, however,  will possibly look at this picture and begin to tell us the type of sail boat, the price, where it can be purchased, or where the sail kit can be found. He/she might share the history of sailing or even the name of the Dinner Cruise on Lake Champlain where this scene can be duplicated for you.

The writers on the Creative Writing Channel, however, will look at this scene and write a novel about “A Trip Around the World in a Sailboat”, or a short story about”The Little Boy Who Dreamed of Sailing”.

He might write a poem about “The Sunset Years” or a reflection remembering “The Night I Took the Sunset Picture” and didn't know until the next day that a sailboat had wondered unnoticed into the center of the picture.

Or a fantasy writer might think of a story of “The Haunted Sailboat” whose former owners have come back to take revenge of the “Sailboat With a Mind of Its Own”.

If you see any of the above when you look at this picture, then we invite you to come and join us in the  Creative Writing Channel!

:) Thanks, Missy. It's not "finished" but I thought I'd get it out there. Please let me know if you run across any good contests! The one you won last year, is that a yearly thing?
