Fatherhood: More than a Job

Becoming a father is easy.  Being a father is not.  Kids don't come with manuals.  No HR training classes. Which is better? Drill sargeant or co-conspirator?

Need some help coping with the new job description?  From hormones to teenagers, help is on the way!

Hello. My name is Dad.

There is no twelve-step program for fathers...yet.

Is fatherhood on your horizon? There are some things no one has mentioned just yet!

Car seat installed: Check.  Bassinet assembled, no parts left over: Check.  Baby home: Check.  Now what?

You have become a man who provides support for his family.  Was that what your father did? Time to be an all-around dad, not just a breadwinner. How do you balance a job and a family?

Speaking of balance...wasn't it easier when it was just you and your wife?  She is spending a ton of time with the baby, and you are out in the cold.

Are you sure you are qualified for this "father" thing?

But what happened to the rest of you?  Do you and your friends still get together for a friendly poker game? Or are you on the floor playing with the children instead?

Maybe you are the stay-at-home dad. How is your life different from the "other dads"?

What is that psuedo-adult doing in your house?  Did your wife not tell you about putting an ad in the paper for a boarder? No, it is called a "teenager".  Or even worse: A girl teenager.

Divorce pending? Maybe a survival guide would help.

Is the divorce already final?  You are still "Dad".  Weekend parenting is a bit different.

You met the love of your life...but she already has children.  What the heck is a stepfather to do?

The world of father changes from day to day.  That roller coaster is one most men would not trade all the stock in the NYSE for on a good day or all of their marbles for on a bad day.

Take some time to read and learn.  Then take that next step...write about fatherhood.  Help out the next man in line.  What you write could change his life!

This is a lot of work, but I think it is a good thing. I am looking to start a group. The ideas or themes would be positive leadership, inspirational, motivational, and youth and family. What do you think?
