Helium's Haiti Relief Fund

Write for Haiti

The recent tragedy in Haiti will be in the news for weeks and months with painful stories and images.

On Helium, you can contribute to the relief through your writing. As the world's largest writing community, Helium writers are extremely passionate and engaged --  especially when it comes to the issues we face as a global community.

When you Write for Haiti, you can donate your article earnings through the "Donate" option when you submit your article or donate previously written articles from the Article Options feature on your My Articles page. Our new initiative allows you to donate your account balance in part or in whole to the Helium Haiti Relief Fund. These funds will accumulate as we determine the appropriate global relief organization for the funds. We'll post the account balance here as it grows.

You will only be able to donate if you have the ability to request payment, which means that you have an Account Balance of $25 or more. You can, however, choose to donate a portion of your entire balance. We have two methods of donating all or a portion of your payment request.

1. Use the comments section below. We have posted instructions there on how to do this.
2. Or, send a message from your Helium Inbox. Go to your Inbox from the link in the top navigation bar. Select "Compose Message." In the To line, choose "Select" then "Find More..." Enter "Helium Relief Fund" and then press "Search". When it appears in the box below, click the red "+" plus sign, and the name will move to the right. Press continue. Enter "DONATE PART OF MY PAYMENT REQUEST" in the subject then put the total amount in dollars that you wish to donate. If you wish to donate all of the balance put "ALL" in the message. Finally, hit "Send". You will then need to request the amount in your account balance as you usually would. We will deal with splitting the payment as you state in the message.
3. If you don't have the necessary $25 to request but wish to contribute as a Helium member, you can transfer funds via PayPal to relieffund@helium.com these are being included in the current balance below.

Account balance donations will not be included in or display on your Earnings & Payments page as a part of your "Total Charity Donations," but your donated article earnings will.  We will, upon request, supply you with the total donations within the year.

Helium is doing our part by sponsoring a Write For Haiti contest. We will be donating $2.00 for every article written to the contest as well as donating all of the winning prize money $130 in total, to the fund.

Final Balance of Donations $1235.65 went to CARE.org Thanks to the Helium community for your contributions to this effort.  

We have been working to find a nonprofit doing work in Haiti who would join our nonprofit partnership program. CARE joined in August and we are excited to have them as our one of our newest nonprofit parterns. 

Currently, 10,840 Helium writers have donated the earnings from 44,065 articles to Helium's nonprofit partners. Helium is proud to provide this platform for our community of writers to publish and help less fortunate communities.
