Introduction

Groups are the newest addition to Helium. They incorporate all our latest features, with the added benefit of enabling you to meet new people. Anyone can form, join, and view Groups. You can create or join a Group for the car you drive, your favorite video game, a celebrity you follow, a hobby, a sport you love ... the opportunities are endless.

Why Create a Group?

Groups are a great way to meet and stay connected with other members of Helium. Whatever your interests or passion, Helium’s got a Group for you. Can't find one that suits you? Start your own!

Benefits of Creating/Joining Groups on Helium

Becoming a regular Groups user on Helium benefits everyone. When members share their enthusiasm and knowledge on a topic, all participants gain. You can meet people who may offer you support, or who could use your advice. Users can swap tips, tricks, information and more. Who knows what you'll find: jobs, friends ... maybe even love. 

Creating a Fully Featured Group - Deciding on a Group's Properties

Group Name: Choose whatever name you think best describes your Group.


Include in Public Group Directory:

There are "Yes" and "No" options. Choose "Yes" and everyone who logs on to the Group Directory can see your Group and all the information related to it. Choose "No" and your Group will remain private - others can see that your Group exists, but do not have access to it.

Who can join?
Open to anyone: Anyone who wants to join your Group can click "Join Now" to become a member.

Requires Request/Approval: People must request to be a member. The Manager of the Group has the ability to approve or deny the request.

Private: No one can request to join - Managers must invite members.

 

Who can send messages to a Group?
Anyone: Anyone on Helium can send a message to your Group members.

Members only: Only members can send other members messages.

Managers only: Only Managers can send Group members messages.



Who can view the Group's members?
Anyone: Anyone on Helium can view the members of the Group.

Members only: Only members can view other members.

Managers only: Only Managers have the ability to view members of the Group.


Who can view the Group's content?
Anyone: Anyone on Helium can view forums and Group information.

Members only: Only members can view forums and other Group information.

Tags for Tag Clouds are keywords for the Group selected by Managers. Once entered, our system will automatically denote the importance of each tag by its font size. Each tag will be hyperlinked to an appropriate Zone.

Description: The purpose and goals of the Group, as decided by its Manager(s).

Joining a Group

There are three ways to join a Group:

  1. “Join Now” – This Group is open and will allow anyone to become a member. Simply click the “Join Now” link and you're in.
  2. “Request Membership in this Group” – The Manager has selected to make this group more private. To become a member, you must click on the “Request Membership in this Group” link and wait for the manager to approve your request.
  3. "This Group has a private membership. You cannot directly request membership.” – The Manager of this Group must invite you to become a member.

Forming a Group

There are two options for Groups:

-       Personal Email Group - Create a contact list by adding users to your Email Group. Send mass notifications with one easy email.
-       A Fully Featured Group offers many ways to tailor a Group to its members' wishes. Check the block to the right of this one for a guide to choosing the best options.
