The value of gold has continued to increase in value for much of the first decade of the 21st century. At the end of 2002 the price of gold was approximately $300.00 USD per ounce, in May of 2010 the value had increased to over $1200.00 USD per ounce. The reasons for this rise is economically complex but may boil down to a simple lack of confidence in other forms of investment and worldwide economic shifts.

What does this rise in the price of Gold mean or imply for the United States? Is the U.S. economy struggling to regain economic footing or will there be a turnaround which renews confidence in the U.S. economy, and its currency.
