Important Fitness Club Membership Information

Fitness club memberships are not free. Well, at least not for most people. Startup Fees also referred to as Initiation Fees are often imposed on new patrons; membership fees are due and payable on regular bases, and depending on terms of your agreement, reinstatement fees may be tendered at the beginning of each contract renewal period.

Some states, such as California, allow a three day cooling off period in case you change your mind and don't want the membership for any reason during those three days. After that, as with other states, the contracts go into affect and your payments become payable just like a credit card bill, or an electric bill, or a mortgage.

The urgency and frequency of payments you must make to fitness centers is more than enough reason to play close attention to contractual terms when joining a gym. Get the scoop HERE.

Fitness Center Rules

Working out in gyms requires patrons to be considerate of co-patrons. Each member has rights to all applicable gym locations and equipments and it is important that every one receives due respect and consideration while utilizing these facilities.

Knowing the rules isn't always easy, however, when so many of them are not posted. Club owners figure members can figure these things out for themselves. This makes perfect sense since most members are adults and younger members are supposed to be supervised. All the same, in efforts to bring some of the unwritten to the forefront you can read about fitness club/gym rules HERE.

Sanitation at Fitness Clubs

Germaphobes and non-germaphobes should be aware of the multitude of germs lurking by the billions at Fitness centers every single day. Whether left behind by sweaty palms, perspiring arm pits, or dripping from overheated faces, the germs lay and wait for unsuspecting victims to come along and pick them up. Now, more than ever, with swine flu traveling from country to country and state to state you should learn more about protecting yourself. Read about protecting yourself from germs at gyms and fitness clubs HERE.

Proper Workout Clothing

The reason most people attend fitness clubs is to get in or stay in shape; and while at gyms, most people expect a bit of socialization to occur from time to time. This sometimes comes about while observing others "machinery expertise" and approaching them about their tactics. Or perhaps they notice your techniques and question you. These exchanges are usually welcome and helpful to exercisers.

What is not so helpful, especially for women, is guys (and sometimes girls) passing by, or worse, standing in front of club members with their underwear hanging out. This sad excuse for a "dressing style" is still offensive to most people and has no place in a health club where you will be sitting; and believe me, most patrons will not say anything, but they would prefer you not give the appearance of unnecessarily adding more than your share of germs to machinery and equipment they must use by exposing your drawers.

Wearing the right clothing when working out not only prevents you from grossing out fellow patrons, however, the right clothing is also vital to your comfort, safety, and maneuverability. Clothing that fits too tight may be restricting and loose clothing may be too revealing if you bend over. Learn how to choose workout attire that can aid your exercise routine HERE.

Are Fitness Club Gyms Better Than Home Gyms

At home or in a gym the main thing is to get the workout so you can get in or stay in shape. Not sure which to choose...? Find help HERE.

Choosing the Right Personal Trainer

Starting a workout program at a fitness club can be easier when you have a partner because you can help each other fumble through the learning process. Going at it alone is another story, however, and you may prefer to get help by hiring a personal assistant. But how do you go about choosing a personal assistant? Read more.

Pool & Spa Cleanliness & Safety

Noting cleanliness of swimming pools at fitness clubs is just as important as being careful at any other pool. Just because a pool is in a health club doesn't mean it's been cleaned properly before you jump in it. Learn how to protect yourself from swimming pool contaminants HERE.

Sauna Safety - Is Sauna Heat Really Good For You?

Taking time to relax and get yourself steamed in sweat producing saunas could be just what the doctor ordered... But even if he did, it's important to exercise a number of safety precautions prior to and following the use of saunas. Read about it HERE.

Getting Around A Gym

Figuring out the nuts and bolts, or maybe that should be weights and dumbbells, of a health club can be overwhelming especially if you've never been in a fitness center before. Looking beyond the doorway as you step in, you may have difficulty resting your eyes on one of the many large moveable pieces of equipment lined up in rows in the oversized room.

Whether you've already subjected yourself to this "lost in the metal woods" experience or you intend to begin an exercise regimen, you've come to the right place to learn about getting around in a gym or fitness club. Read about it HERE.

Heart Rate Monitors

Concerned about your heart rate when exercising...? Well, you're not alone. Using a Heart Rate Monitor may give you a sense of relief.

Fluid Consumption Hydration

Excercise = Perspiration = Loss of Fluids + Drinking Fluids = ReHydration = Safety

Water and other healthful fluids should be consumed daily even when we aren't involved in exercise regimens. Since working out causes us to perspire and lose quite a bit of water stored in our bodies, drinking water and other hydrating liquids before, during and following exercise routines is vital to our good health and is necessary in the prevention of dehydration.
