Thoughts on Writing

Words are red hot passion or they're cool contemplative thoughts as we craft our words for our readers. We'd rather be anything but boring. As long as we remember the needs of our audience, we're treading (mostly) on level ground.
Writing is an expression of thoughts, ideas, and passion for life and life issues. The stereotypical starving artist (including writers) has been replaced with successful copywriters, freelance, weblogs, and novelists. Most of us probably won't write the bestseller we've dreamed of for years, but with the advent of electronic publishing and the Internet, we manage to sell our words for profit.
I don't live in a box, so I don't restrict my writing to any one style or type of writing, but as a former industrial engineer, now retired, I'm probably more at home with informational articles. In the workplace we wear so many hats and embrace experience in a wide variety of disciplines.
My interests, like those of many writers, are broad and cover a wide range of subjects and topics. Some people call that eclectic writing but I call it life experience interspersed with research. I believe the writer who employs his/her craft is interested in a ton of subjects and knows enough about each to weave that knowledge into details that enhance the body of his written works.
My first and only book publication came in 2006. It's a combination of short stories and poetry by Native American writers and is about life in general. Parts of the book are ethnic in nature but many of the entries have a universal theme.
I've been sitting on a manuscript for a children's book for a couple of years--waiting to breathe life into it. Maybe this will be the year.
