The Spider Zone

Arachnids are a class of invertebrates which have jointed legs that includes spiders, scorpions, ticks, mites, Solifugae and harvestmen. There are over 100,000 species described so far, and there are more being found every year. Perhaps the most common and well known of these are spiders, the eight legged hunters of the invertebrate world.

Many people tend to be fearful of arachnids, particularly spiders, however in actual fact most are completely harmless and can be fascinating to study. If you need to know anything about an arachnid, you should be able to find it here. (eventually :P)

Hi there. I studied spiders in New Zealand in the 1970's and found about thirty new species. The taxonomist who described them named one of them after me: Neoramia margaretae, so i have a special place in my heart for these generally unloved critters. It's nice to see a zone about spiders and it is to be hoped that it will help people understand and appreciate arachnids for their important roles in terrestrial ecosystems.

Nice! Very informative. I found more information here than in an extensive search a while back to identify a certain spider.
