Hiking And Nature Zone

 

What is a hiking and nature zone about?

A hiking and nature zone is just what it says, about hiking and experiencing nature, having adventures.  It is about walking places and discovering locales that are missed by many because they won't walk or take time to truly explore.  I hope to populate it with birds, butterflies, bugs, flowers and strange plants as well as scenic vistas, that is provided I can find out how to download photos!

To quote by favorite cartoon character, Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes (Bill Watterson), "Explorers are we, courageous and bold.  Out in the wild amongst wonder untold.  Armed with our wits, a map and a snack, we're looking for fun and we're on the right track!"

Calvin did actually do some hiking with a scout troop and once headed to the Yukon!  Of course his camping trip and nature explorations weren't alway the best to promote hiking, but he tried!

Hiking Vistas!

This vista no longer exists as the area was bought out and is now being converted into housing and the salt pond made into a marina.  Get out and enjoy things while you can and maybe governments will realize the value of what they have.

Is Nature bugging You?

This caterpillar is a pseudosphynx moth larvae.  They feed prinmarily on Allamandas and Frangipani in the Caribbean!  This little beast goes from microscopic to about 6 inches or more in just a few days.

Plants are nature!

The Orchids are blooming up on Nevis Peak, we have 23 different varieties, but all are tiny and difficult to find if you don't know where to look!

Avians and Reptiles seen in nature, not zoos!

Look at this rare, Purple-throated Carib hummingbird for our mountain!  The Photographer did a wonderful job!

I am having troubles with the Poll in this Zone. The bird was actually a suspected St. Kitts Bullfinch which went Extinct in the 1920, but now seems to reside on Nevis. Birdlife International is send a researcher here to take blood samples and will reclassify it!

Wow, beautiful! You take amazing photos! If you're looking for things to add to your site, I'd recommend more of your fantastic photos, along with plenty of Helium articles about hiking and nature. Instead of putting the articles in a link like you have been, choose "Helium article" as the content type and then select an image to go along with it. Organizing articles in a list box is a great way to do it if you're short on space, but otherwise, it's nice to spread out (IMHO). Any, beautiful photos!

Great looking zone, so far, James! I'll be creating a Camping Zone later this month and will be sure to link up to yours. Editorial comment: your two right columns are nearly empty. Maybe you could add some content there? Your Zone Manager profile fits there well, and so do link lists, Submit a Link, a Weather Report, a News Block (be sure to insert just ONE or TWO keywords and see what happens!), more photos, and (of course!) some Helium articles.
