Welcome to the Southern Tier of New York

New York's Southern Tier includes counties nearest the Pennsylvania state line, ranging from the far western Chauttauqua County to Binghamton and Endicott in Broome County.  Notable in Steuben County are the cities of Corning, Bath (the county seat) and Hornell.  Chemung County features Elmira and Horseheads.  Wellsville, Alfred, Olean, Salamanca, Owego, Waverly and Endicott are other recognizable cities in the Southern Tier.

This rural area has many offerings for visitors:  The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning.  Snow skiing and snow boarding at Swain in Allegany County  Watkins Glen International Speedway.  Luci-Desi Museum in Jamestown (Lucille Ball's birthplace).  Binghamton University.  Alfred University.  Mark Twain's grave in Elmira.  .

These counties are easily accessible via the Southern Tier Expressway, a.k.a. NY Route 17 and Interstate 86.

Kathleen, Great zone! From one upstate NY'er to another...good job! My husband (who's from Florida) will enjoy looking through your zone. He's always looking for new places to visit.

So close to home, Kathleen! Great job with this zone. I'll be back to read and enjoy all you've posted here -- all about places just an hour or two from my front door. Well done! Here's a peek at my edge of the state: http://www.helium.com/zone/2370-stately-mansions-of-east-avenue-rochester-ny Well done, Kathleen. I shall return... ~Jim

Nice job and a great zne, from the guy at Zone 1591, Rosy Reds, the Frogs and the Vegetable Garden. From a personal standpoint, I certainly can relate to all the hard work and thinking. But it's sort of fun too. Greg Spinks

Unfortunately this native Manhattan-ite only ventured as far north as Westchester and Putnam. Only once I went further north on a train from Penn Station to Niagara. Wonderful Zone and keep up the good work. I will definetly visit more often.

Kathleen, this page looks great. It's been a long time since I've been up that way, but I loved every visit there. I've seen Elmira, Corning, Binghamton and Alfred.

Great Zone... I grew up in Vestal and miss the Bingo area. I would like to suggest that you may want to place a feed to news in the area then I wouldn't have to visit anywhere but here to find out what is going on back home.
