Poppy's Scroll Saw Woodwork

About our store

Poppy

Poppy's Scroll Saw Woodwork was created by me to share with everyone all of the scroll saw woodwork my father has done. He has been working with the scroll saw since 1991. He makes all handmade scroll saw plaques, jewelry boxes, and clocks. He works with a variety of woods like oak, maple, poplar, hickory, and baltic birch plus others. He uses a variety of stains to accent his work and bring his pictures to life.

In January, we opened an online store through ecrater to showcase his work and sell it to everyone. There are many choices of plaques and other scroll saw woodwork to choose from. There are several catergories in which you will discover beautiful woodwork. Nature, Religious, Native American, Military, and much more.

What is scroll saw woodwork ?

Scroll saw woodwork uses a small blade that can cut very delicate details into the wood. This blade is different because it also allows the artist to cut sharp curves. The blade can also be moved in and out of the wood so that there are several different starting and stopping points. The delicate and intricate cuts made using the blade help to add more detail and design to a picture that is being cut out. Each tiny cut can add features to a face or to clothing in the picture.

Some of Poppy's woodwork took several days to complete because of the many cuts required to make the picture come to life. Some of his work has over a thousand different cuts in them.

Scroll saw woodwork takes patience and precison. Poppy has both of those but even more important is that he has a passion for what he does and you will be able to see that in his work.

Since I consider myself at least a "fair" woodworker, and thoroughly enjoy woodworking, I thought I'd try my hand at letting others know what it means to me; the rewards that come with it; the emotion...More>

Nativity Scene

Poppy's Nativity Scene is 11"h by 14 1/2"w.

The plaque is made from poplar and the cutouts from baltic birch. Some of Poppy's plaques use layering to make a picture have dimension and give it character and life. Layering is taking a solid background such as the plaque. Then taking the scroll saw and cutting out the images or backgrounds. The cutouts are then layered onto the plaque to form the picture.
