Defensive Player of the Year!

James Harrison has been a forced to be reckoned all season. The 6', 242 lb outside line backer has 93 tackles, 33 assists and 16 sacks to his credit for this season. An undisputed powerhouse in the number one ranked defense, Harrison is the first Steeler to be awarded the NFL Defensive Player of the Year since Rod Woodson in 1993.

The outside linebacker team of Harrison and Lamarr Woodley have been a factor throughout the 2008 season.

I agree Wayne. We'll see if Fitzgerald can run on us the way he did on Philly! I'm calling the Steelers by 10.

So glad to see the black and gold Superbowl bound, Tina! If my beloved Buffalo Bills can't be there, the Steelers will be a most worthy substitute. Thanks for creating this very cool Zone. ~Jim

The addition of Shaun McDonald, the release of Larry Foote and the extension of Hines Ward's contact are the big news items for the spring of 2009. Foote will be missed. McDonald has to be thrilled to be anywhere but Detroit and Hines... well, he's a Steeler through and through. I expect him to retire from the Steelers, reminiscent of his friend Jerome Bettis.

Stay tuned for reports from mini camps and other Steeler news as the pre-preseason winds up.

The NFL draft - educated and researched picks, or just a crap shoot? Historically, nothing is for certain. Many #1 draft picks have fizzled like shooting stars. Other late round picks have turned into shining stars on the field.

The 2009 draft takes place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City April 25-26. The Steelers, as the reigning Champs have the last pick this year unless some trading of draft picks takes place.

The Steelers recently announced their pre-season schedule. The first pre-season game is a rematch of Super Bowl XLIII with Arizona at Heinz Field Thursday August 13, 2009.
