"In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth."  Genesis 1:1

There's just something about snow!

When God sends His lovely crystal condensation, He settles a blanket of white over the world -- and sometimes it happens when we're asleep.

I woke up Christmas morning at 6 a.m. and thought it seemed unusually quiet.  One peek outside, and I found the answer ... our first white Christmas in 21 years!

A fresh-fallen snow gives this ol' world a clean face for awhile, at least.  It also insulates the ground and freezes out some pesky insects.

Later, when it melts, that same snow adds moisture to the water table. In our part of the southeast, we are way behind the norm for rainfall, and the recent snow was a blessing.

Where you live, snow may be a rare wonder or a potential mess and a lot of extra work to keep it shoveled.  One thing we do know for sure about this time of year ...

God promised, in Genesis 8:22, that as long as the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter and day and night.  If winter has settled in at your house, why not join me for a cup of hot cocoa?

Why is snow white even though it's made of ice, which usually appears clear? Viewed with common logic, if snow is made of ice, shouldn't it be clear or translucent in appearance? Well, it's because ...More>

Dark-Eyed Junco

One of God's little snow birds, the junco huddles in colonies of his kind -- usually beneath bushes or among undergrowth -- to stay warm in winter.  Natural ground feeders, they have a harder time finding food when snow falls, so a bird feeder is helpful.  Suet helps them retain their energy and warmth.  Peanuts, sunflower seeds, millet, and cracked corn are among their other favorite snacks.
