20th Century History
I am a former newspaper and wire service journalist who has been writing professionally for 40 years - although today I do mostly satire, fiction, and short articles. Having majored in history, I now serve as a site steward for Helium's history channels.
European History
I have a Master's degree in Linguistics from Stanford University and a Bachelor's in English Language. I have additional work in Developmental Psychology, specializing in language acquisition. I have also taken a career and education break to raise my four children including twins, and so have turned to writing as an informal outlet of my ideas......
History Mysteries
I am the Arts & Humanities channel sub-steward for History Mysteries, which offers a chance to explore unusual and unexplained events in history.
I spent most of my working years as a secretary and administrative assistant. Nearly all of those positions involved writing and editing everything from proposals to business plans. But my favorite time of all was the four years I spent running my own resume and writing service. I met and worked with literally thousands of wonderful people, and worked on projects ranging from short letters to screenplays.
In addition to writing here at Helium, I am working on several other projects, including a book of jewelry designs, a book about mysterious objects and places, and a screenplay. In my spare time, I design knitting and crochet patterns.
Please enjoy your time at Helium. And if I can be of help, please don't hesitate to contact me.
The Middle Ages / Origins & Firsts in History
A Chicagoan by birth, across the past 50 years I have lived in four states and five countries. A trained graphic artist, I also hold a PhD in Medieval English Literature.
I can not remember being unable to read. My love affair with language, writing, music, and drawing is life-long. Most of my work focuses on the history of scripts, writing systems, and ancient poetry/song (which last was identical in those days). I also research the acquisition of literacy and taught how to do research and to write it up.
Asia, Africa & Mideast History
Lian has studied archaeology, mythology and humanities for several years and has completed one degree. She is currently working on another BA before going onto her MA in Archaeology. She plans to work on her PhD in Religious theology in order to specialize in Religious Archaeology. She is currently learning Mandarin and Cantonese as well as Classical Greek. She is of Greek and British origin and is very proud of her Greek roots. Lian has just been made the sub-channel steward for the Asia/Africa/Mid East section of the Arts & Humanities channel. She looks forward to reading your articles. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact her. She will be very happy to help in any way.
MUSEUMS & GALLERIES
I am a Christian, and am a Biblical Counselor, my dream, even late in life is to be a victim's advocate. I have been taking Cherokee lessons, and I love reading, writing and listening to most genres of music. I am into photography mostly of nature, dogs, and my family.
The Arts and Humanities Group
Philosophy Steward
Jon is the Philosophy Steward in Arts & Humanities Channel. He is responsible for these sub-channels: Awareness & Reality (Raymond Alexander Kukkee, Steward), Ethics (TBA), History of Ideas, Meaning of Life, Philosophical Concepts, Political Philosophy, Schools of Thought, and Philosophy (Other).
He still seeks willing hands to take steward responsibilities for the other seven sub-channels. It will keep you busy, but it won't take over your life. It's about community building, maintaining high-quality content, and developing writing networks with other members.
Philosophy - Awareness and Reality / Ethics
Raymond is the Steward for the "Awareness and Reality" sub-channel of Philosophy and is pleased to assist you wherever possible. New ideas, title suggestions, and interest combined with consistent effort, good grammar, spelling, and overall excellence can make Helium and your own writing sparkle! Do not be afraid to make suggestions or ask for assistance, and remember, Helium does offer mentors for aspiring writers that may be experiencing difficulty.
Philosophy -Meaning of Life
When I was young I was quiet and shy. Now I have a view about almost everything and Helium provides my ideal writing soapbox.
I am 64 and retired for the second time. My wife and I came from England to live in south west France four years ago and have absolutely no regrets about the move.
After school I trained to be a teacher at Westminster College, Oxford with an advanced main study in Geography. I then spent 25 years teaching geography to teenagers and playing a major role in their pastoral care.
I have written a considerable amount over the past 18 years, including two published works of non-fiction, magazine articles, short stories and two unpublished novels. To help improve my writing I completed a course in proof reading, and this has sharpened my awareness of the little errors that can creep into the best planned of pieces.
At present, in between working to improve our house and growing fruit and vegetables, I enjoy walking, reading, listening to music and writing - articles at present, but perhaps in the future, more novels.

Literature - Children's Literature
My name is Margaret A. Shauers. I have been a "working writer" for 40 years, with hundreds of children's stories published and 5 books.Besides being the Sub-Channel Steward Arts and Humanities> Children's Literature here at Helium, I teach three online classes about writing magazine fiction for children.
Historical Literature
Frances Stanford is a retired teacher and and writer of many teacher resource books, especially novel study guides. After spending 31 years in the classroom, she now devotes her time to freelance writing.
She lives in the small scenic community of Grates Cove, Newfoundland, Canada. When she writes she can look out through her window at the Atlantic Ocean.
She loves knitting and crocheting. Her Aran knit sweaters have sold all over the world to visitors who come to her craft store in the community.
She is the Channel Steward for Travel: Caribbean and Atlantic and enjoys reading the many travel articles written for these areas.
Literature - Fantasy & Science Fiction
I am a single stay-at-home mother of one who finally found a profitable way to stay home. No, it's certainly not an easy road and it's not always fun, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm finally making a living doing the writing I've always loved, I'm able to help other aspiring writers enter the freelancing world and, in my free time, I get to write about subjects I'm truly passionate about on Helium.
Animals of all kinds have a special place in my heart and I strive to provide the best forever home I can to the ones that have come into my life. I can only hope that through my writing I can help others do the same and possibly even inspire someone to give a shelter animal a chance.
Literature - Playwrights & Plays
Mary Jane (MJ) Suttor has spent the last 20 years as a high school English teacher. In these endeavors she has also advised school newspapers and yearbooks as well. In addition to these assignments, Mary Jane has been a high school theater director who has led several plays to state one-act-play honors.
Graduating with Bachelor's degrees in English as well as a second degree in Speech communication and Theater, Mary Jane has been a life long supporter of the arts.
As a writer for Helium, Mary Jane has enjoyed fostering her own love of writing again and appreciates all the opportunities that are offered.
Literature - Other
I am a fiction writer as well as reviewer. I write for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Blogcritics, and work as the Books Editor for Monsters and Critics. I also co-founded Cosmoetica, the most read non-commercial arts site.
I am also a Channel Steward for literature.
Writing: The Business of Writing / The Writing Process
I am subchannel steward for the 'Business of Writing' and the 'Writing Process' in the Writing Channel . Do contact me anytime if I can be of help, or if you want know more about my subchannels.
There is never a day when I do not write. I have several blogs, in addition to writing online articles and producing web content. I also enjoy posting in forums and on message boards.
I have previously worked in print publishing and in book marketing. A few years ago I became a part time mature student, and I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Writing at Helium
As a Senior Steward on the Helium site, I am here to help members in the development of their Helium experience, and am very approachable by any members experiencing difficulty on the site.
I also act as New Member Guide, and understand the frustrations encountered by New Members and am willing to help them to understand all the concepts of being a member at Helium.
Having been involved in writing since childhood, it is part of my passion and enjoyment. Writing gives you a chance to express who you are and what you stand for, and I certainly have a lot of articles, though take joy from reading other articles to keep my mind honed and my mind open to learning, which is what I see the Helium experience as being all about.
Author of two novels, hundreds of short stories and poetry, my writing is important using everyday life as inspiration that paints a picture on the page.
Writing Process -Thoughts on Writing
~Hi from my neck of the woods!~
I'm Crystal, a Sub-channel steward of Arts and Humanities (~Thoughts on Writing~.)
If you are a new member or even an established member looking to branch out in to another area, I'm here to help! If you have a question(s) Please, feel free to mail me.
If I don't have the answer, I can direct you to someone who does. :-)
Writing Process -Writing Tips
I have a B.A and an M.F.A in Creative Writing and Communications. Because of it, I have gotten better at the craft of writing, but attribute becoming more polished to being here at Helium. Practice, staying on topic, and expressing oneself well, and learning to look at one's work with a critical eye, can be practiced here through the art of putting ideas dipped in emotions onto paper. Regular fiction, articles in which I have first hand knowledge, and writing my novel are my favorite writing venues.
Other than writing, I'd say one value I am glad for is being able to give hope to those dealing with a disease or situation that deeply affects their lives. I offer my compassion because I am going through the same things.
