: About Me

Athena Brady was born in Liverpool England. Home of author Helen Forrester ( Ferry across the Mersey ) and play write Willy Russell ( Blood Brothers) She has been writing since she was a small child and left school with 2 C.S.C.E's in English Language and Literature.

Athena married young Age 17yrs and had four children. When they were young, she would write stories for her four children and draw the illustrations. Later, she wrote short stories with a twist to amuse her friends. In the late 1970s she joined a local action group, who's aim it was to build a safe play area for local children. Holding the positions of publicity officer and vice chair. Her letter to the Liverpool Echo was printed in full and a follow up interview was conducted. Athena also facilitated on producing a video for the group, as a interviewer. A founder member of Park Road Credit Union, as a volunteer in the following posts, cashier, secretary of credit committee and board member respectively.

Divorced at 31yrs (1991) Athena returned to work in local care homes and then became a nursing Auxiliary. Returning to college 2 yrs later to gain 4 G.S.C.E's and 2 "O Levels" in Sociology and Psychology. After, she entered university and began a Diploma in Social Work graduating in 1999 at the age of 39 yrs.

Her career has taken her through various areas of social work which include. Children and Families, Young Adults, Mental Health, Older People and co facilitating in the setting up of Extra Care facilities. Athena is currently working with individuals who have Learning Disabilities.

In 2003 Athena entered a competition for "a fun story about Halton" in her local Widnes World newspaper. She won the competition and read it out on a local volunteer Radio Station.

In 2005, Athena moved to the beautiful countryside of West Wales to experience a simpler lifestyle. Where she began to write with serious intent , and to realise a lifelong ambition. She is currently working on a 1960s set novel and several other projects. She joined Helium in Sept 2009 and has been a avid writer on the site since then. Athena currently work's part-time to enable her to pursue a career in writing.

Athena welcomes constructive criticism and would like to thank anyone who has taken the time to read her "about me page". Athena is an avid believer in social justice, spiritual rather than religious but respectful of the beliefs of others. She writes to inspire, give hope, joy, and touch the souls of others.
