I am a writer who is trying to break into the freelance world. Ever since I was a child, I loved reading and writing my own short stories, and even illustrating them. I was inspired by writers such as Beverly Cleary and Ann M. Martin to create book series developing characters and plots that were fun to write about.
During high school I took a class in journalism, finding another outlet for my writing. Although I was not given as much creative liberty, I still enjoyed coming up with article ideas, conducting interviews and doing research to create informative pieces. I continued writing for the newspaper into my college career where I decided that I wanted to make writing a part of my professional life. I became involved in the University Writing Center where I helped students from all different majors through all steps of the writing process. I helped with brainstorming ideas, creating theses, developing outlines, paragraph construction and editing and proofreading final papers. I loved sharing my passion and talent with other students and getting paid for it. The highlight of my college years was when I was chosen to edit the campus Literary and Arts Magazine. I was thrilled because not only did I get to contribute my own creative writing, but I helped in the process of choosing other people's work that got published.
After graduating I landed a job as an advertising copywriter. Like journalism, ad copywriting was also different than creative writing. I had to be clear and concise while also writing with originality and flair. I wrote for clients from all over the spectrum - retailers, real estate, nonprofit, healthcare, political...I learned a lot about many different industries. I wrote television and radio scripts, press releases, newspaper and direct mail copy, website and e-newsletter copy, and whatever else a client requested. I worked full-time, many times over 40 hours a week. By the time I went home, I was often too mentally exhausted to think about creative writing.
I'm now at a point in my life where I don't work a full-time job and am able to dedicate several hours a day to creativity and writing. I have told many people throughout my life that I apire to write a novel, and that they will see my name on the cover of a best-selling book. I hope that this will one day be true, and know that it will as long as I keep writing.

When people want to make a good first impression, image is important. Same is true for car dealerships that keep the vehicles on their lots washed and free of spots. Retail stores strive to staff enough employees to keep shelves clean and organized. An initial appearance, whether that of a person, place or thing, determines how others perceive someone or something - orderly, messy, cheap, expensive, and so on. Packaging serves as the initial impression of a product for consumers. Think about which you are more attracted to an item with unique, eye-catching, well-designed packaging or an it...
