Hi. My name is Amanda and I've been a part of Helium since the 26th of January 2009. I've always liked to write, and most often it used to be in the form of letters to relatives and friends, or through expressions of poetry.
In Jan 2009, I came across a very inspiring article by a writer named Geno Lawrenzi who mentioned something about being a 'ghost writer'. I forget the entire content of the article, but the name stayed on and I searched the net for more of his work, and landed here at Helium. Since then, I have fallen head over heels in love with this site and have grown as a writer (Geno, thanks so much). It has brought out a part of me that was just waiting for some creative writing outlet.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Botany, with a Masters Diploma in Hospital Management and a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management. Until a couple of years ago, I was a Retailer. Currently I am a work-at-home freelance writer for quite a few sites.
Here at Helium, I am the Manager for the Botany Channel and also a junior editor for the Science Channel. I look forward to interacting with you and I invite you to also take a peek at what the Botany Channel has to offer. You might be surprised. Your favourite tree / flower / fruit might get your fancy and perhaps inspire you to write something... who knows! :)
And yes, I also love to draw, paint, sing, dance, read, play music, sew, make artificial flowers, etc etc etc. Bottom line; I cannot sit still. So apart from Science titles, I do lend my thoughts to the Arts and Crafts or Gardening channels, with the hope that my sense of creativity might benefit a reader. I am a fun loving person and love to interact with other Helium members. If you do need to get in touch with me at any time or need some help, do message me here and I will try my best to be of help to you. I am just a click away.

Very few ecosystems have attracted ecologists, environmentalists and nature lovers as much as mangroves have. With their rich salt-prone flora and an undeniably rich make up of fauna, mangroves have and still continue to be the best life-guard against calamities from the sea for humans. What then, are mangroves? Mangroves are halophytic plants which are an ecosystem by themselves. They do not belong to any particular plant family but are a diverse group; a collection of herbs, shrubs, vines and trees from unrelated classes, orders and families. The most distinguishi...
