About me - Claudia Windal

About me

I am a multi-professional woman: Episcopal priest, registered nurse (hospice), licensed mortician. As a Lakota native, I have opened a funeral home for our people who struggle with finances in most funeral homes and must sacrifice traditions and merchandise because they don't have adequate funds.

As a priest of nearly 26 years, I now am a priest in residence at St. James on the Parkway Episcopal parish. There, I mostly assist but on occasion, I do preside for the Eucharist and preach. I also am a "supply" priest for a small mission congregation outside Minneapolis.

Writing is a passion of mine. It's next to impossible for me to prioritize my passions since I actually have many. I have adopted a green wing macaw, Apollo, who keeps me company and is most entertaining. I spend time at animal shelters holding rabbits and other critters. I love to read and to ride my mopid around the cities.

As an associate member of a religious order, I travel to the motherhouse several times a year. I live with one of the sisters and we make every effort to be at major community events.

Last year, I made first vows in an ecumenical Franciscan order. Friends now often call me "father/sister or sister/father or....some things I can't share with you here." The Order of Servant Franciscans keeps me in touch with St. Francis of Assisi, his great love of God and the Poor in whom he met Jesus.

Despite sounding very busy, I truly do have time to write. Helium is one of the best sites I've ever found on line.

In a soft voice, John shared that he had received a phone call just before leaving for work. It was his brother telling him that their father had been moved from the nursing home to a local hospital and placed in intensive care because of respiratory problems. "John, what are you doing here then," I asked. He replied that he had no time off left until the end of the year and that he could not afford to mi...
