As the Channel Manager for Pets & Animals, I am here to help. If you have any queries or are interested in joining our team, please feel free to contact me at any time. I am also a member of Helium's Editorial Advisory Board as a part of the Fact Checking, Credentialing and Title Seeding Team.
My previous careers have mainly been in the animal care industry. I worked as a Veterinary Nurse (unqualified) for many years before settling down in Somerset, UK to have a family. I have also worked in pet stores and for animal charities. During this time I completed Levels 1 & 2 in the Hills Pet Nutritional Programme allowing me to give confident advice to owners regarding the diet of their pet. I have also gained my BTEC National Certificate in Horse Management (Equine Business Management) & completed the Open University course in Starting Writing Fiction.
As well as working in the animal care industry, I have also got the personal experience of owning a menagerie of pets! Currently we have a dog, 2 cats and a rabbit, but in the past have had dogs, guinea-pigs, hamsters, rats, gerbils, horses, ponies, box turtle and fish. My more unusual pets included woodlice and a praying mantis! I have also adopted Malu Pothi, a Bengal Tiger, through the World Wide Fund for Nature and my children have an adopted donkey, Vijay from the Donkey Sactuary in Exeter.
Whilst my passion is pet health and care, I do not stick to animal care articles, using my personal experience of miscarriage, pregnancy and being a mother, I have also written many articles regarding childcare. I like to use writing articles for Helium as a way to expand my knowledge in other areas too, submitting articles in many channels, including Hobbies & Games, using my experience and love of the PC game, Sims 3, to help other players.
I tend to write articles but, I am also a keen creative writer. I have written many poems and songs, which are currently helping to build up my portfolio. My first publication was aged 14 years old, when a poem of mine was printed in a book representing the East Midlands, UK. My first novel, 'Murder at Meadowview' is available to buy on Kindle and in print on Amazon.com. My second novel is currently being written, with ideas and plots ready for the third, fourth and fifth! I also plan to use my knowledge and experience to write a collection of pet health and care books.
I like to keep my brain and body active. I am currently learning British Sign Language and Makaton with my children, encouraged by the nursery they attend. English is my first language, but I can also speak French, and have a basic understanding of Spanish, Mexican-Spanish and German. I also understand a few words in Arabic and Italian. I also like to keep fit and healthy and have a green belt in kickboxing.
As a child I travelled a lot. I have lived in Oman, Scotland, England and Jersey (Channel Islands), but have visited Spain, Mexico, Dubai, The Netherlands, Wales and France. Once my children are older I would like to take them out to the Middle East to show them where I grew up. Countries on my list to visit include New Zealand, Canada, Nepal and North America.
I write for Helium, not just to earn money, but for the experience. I enjoy receiving emails of praise and suggestive criticism from readers and other writers, always looking on ways to improve myself. Writing is an important part of who I am and without Helium I would be a completely unknown writer, rather than a relatively unknown one. I am hoping that by adding my articles to this web-site I will gain the recognition that I require to become a better person.
