I have no shame in how I live or where I came from. RESPECT is my ultimate authority and expectation. I don't watch sports but I do have a competitive spirit. I play pool like a shark and I will eat you alive. I watch cartoons to escape a rough day or to begin a day. I'll choose tea over coffee anytime. I usually eat chicken. I usually shrug off things that do not involve too much emotion. I don't brag unless I have to. I give acceptable advice, but I don't expect people to follow it. I laugh, smile, and smirk at almost anything. My favorite punctuation marks are a period (.) and ellipses (...) - one explains that a point has been made and the other explains that more is needed to say. It takes too much energy to hate, so therefore I love unconditionally.
I get to know people at my own risk. I have an uncanny sense of humor. I break egos just to balance people out. If not at work, I can do a great amount of nothing and be satisfied. When at work, doing a great amount of nothing bothers me. I am a woman of my word. If I fail, I will admit it. I prefer myself and anyone else to be fifteen minutes early than fifteen minutes late. I like to try new things: sights, sounds, tastes, and touch. I tend to ramble and will only stop at the sight of a blank facial expression. I am, and always will be, somekind of writer. "Words, words, words." I learn to educate and I educate to learn. I lift my eyebrow often. I am attempting to simplify my life.

There are students who enjoy reading, and there are those students who read because they have to. Incorporating students' interests in reading material they have to read is one of many difficult tasks teachers face. Still, regardless of their students' interests, students' comprehension of what they read has become a much more important factor than how they read. With standardized testing, district expectations, and the expectations of those in the lives of these students, what can teachers do to prepare students to understand the material they read? Tell a book by its cover Regardless of ...
