Growing up in Philly in a large Italian family offered many opportunities for short stories. My grandfather owned a beverage distributorship. There were ten grandchildren, and we all worked in the business from the time we could load and unload trucks and sweep up. There was always a crowd at our house singing, playing music, and loudly debating everyday issues at our kitchen table.
All of the wonderful blessings I have received were totally undeserved. This includes motherhood. As my girls were growing up, every once in a while, I'd notice a small piece of their naïve spirit leave. That was always a bittersweet moment. They matured into wise, discerning women. And our experiences along the way offered many tales . . . which I've woven into articles here on Helium.

The sleek, silver pen was used to sign for one last package at the busy law firm. It was then packed carefully in a box with several other items. That faithful old pen was retired today. For decades it stood in an engraved silver holder on a desk in the legal office. It was used daily and many times needed to be refilled.
