I am a freelance writer and have been writing for Helium since May 2007. This is an excellent way of keeping up with writing and Helium is a way to keep on learning. On Helium I oversee the Art History channel, seed titles, and in general, find ways of helping out.
At home, I am a retired RN, an avid reader, living among tattered books on art, poetry, health, and life in general. (Yes, I keep my outdated books even thought I do most of my reading from my Kendle. I still grieve for those I sold several years ago on half.com )
I am the mother of six children and am the grandmother of nine. They give me plenty of reasons to keep trying to make the next article I write the best one. My family is my cheering squad. Together we represent age 7 up to to near 80. No one is allowed to be closed minded about anything.
I'm looking for artists who also like to write. Any questions about the arts channel give me an email. Art students, give us a try! Seasoned artists, learn what others think of art history, the making of art, buying and selling art, artists and artwork, and much, much, more. As I see it, art and life is the same! Differ with me if you wish.

Violence in young-adult fiction is inexcusable. Youngsters are malleable and impressionistic and take on ideas from others easily. They don't have the maturity to think through reasons why the author wrote such a book. Writers who write for this age group should understand their vulnerability. Why would a writer seek as their first priority to make huge sums of money off these vulnerable youngsters? Violence in young-adult fiction is excusable if it is written by the youth: its serves a purpose for them and is a means for teachers to understand their emotions. Mak...
