About me

BT Cassidy is a Bandit Journalist, known for his controversial writing that holds scant regard or respect for the niceties of the social contract. While it has been said that his writings tend to have an anti-social leaning with a propensity toward inciting violence, he himself declares he is not a misanthrope, but rather a great lover of Humanity, his anger a product of the idiocy of a small group of people who "really make me mad when they screw our cool world up,"

Previously making no secret of his heavy drug use, he has lately reformed, discarding drugs in favor of "the most socially disruptive and enjoyable drug I can imagine- writing,"- although it is widely known this change of heart was fueled by his shock and horror at the hospitalization of close friend Garth Garth after a terrifying drug induced psychosis.

Little is known of his past aside from anecdotes provided by long time collaborator, Adam Gould. Gould openly refers to past incidents such as "Toilet door journalism" and "The Overcoming"- examples of his culture jamming can be found in many of the public toilets located across Adelaide. He is widely quoted for the phrase, "Television; feeding minds empty calories since 1938," a statement he claims sums up his disgust for, "The media giving us dumb entertainment, people deserve better than that, they need something with conceptual meat on it" and has often suggested the search for satisfaction in today's world is stymied by our disconnection with reality; supported, he says by the immense number of people, "Whose lives are making their bodies redundant," and argues that we live too often in a simulacra of reality; Jean Baudrillard's "Simulacra and simulation," having considerable influence on his views.

He writes with an eye for being read by "The people," and is currently under Contract to King Mob Books and is completing his first novel, "How to disappear," due for release in 2008.

Have you ever seen one of those Japanese Zen paintings? You know the ones I mean- there are three heavy black ink lines and somehow from those three lines the artist has captured a ship with ten guys lugging bales of silk down a gangplank while the sail fills with a warm wind and a beautiful woman with her child stand by and watch. They've captured on the paper the very essence of what the image is.

Writing is similar- we don't want to know the footpath is made from concrete- this is what we know with our day-to-day mind. We want to know what the very essence of the concrete footpath is...
