About me

Greetings and Salutations,
*
J Morgetron here, with a little bit about me.
*
I started writing when I was just a little girl. I went to the Young Author's Conference when I was in first grade with my book *The Sunburned Centipede*. I am 32 now and still write as much as I can, though I'm proud to say that I have moved beyond injured insects and onto the more titillating topics.
*
When I was younger I wanted to be an author, but in reality, I became a teacher instead, which is just fine for the time being, and actually a fulfilling career choice. I know there is an old adage thrown around, even on this site at times, that those who can do, and those who can't teach, but I'm doing my part to shatter that stereotype. Correct me if you feel I write in error.
*
I teach high school English. Please don't expect my writing to be perfect.
*
I live with and adore my husband of 7 years, my two daughters who are 13 and 6 and two insane mutts named Edgar, (named after Poe, of course), and Brockley. We got them from the Nebraska Humane Society, which is the perfect way to get a dog because they're inexpensive, already micro-chipped and have their first round of shots. You also get a very sparkly feeling as you walk out of the shelter knowing you rescued a puppy that might otherwise be homeless.
*
I live in Nebraska - a.k.a. "The Heartland" as we are just about in the middle of the United States.
*
I am a Christian and love Jesus. I think it's pretty groovy that He loves me even though I'm so totally flawed. I am open-minded and believe there are many paths to one God. However, Jesus is my chosen path. I'm fairly new to Christianity, so I am still getting used to saying that in public.
*
I write poetry, short stories, fiction, creative non-fiction, plays, and ramblings of a mad nature.
*
If you have any questions or a response to any of my articles, please email me at writegirl@myway.com. I am a response junkie, so feel free to enable my addiction.
*
Also, if you are a publisher or a literary agent on a quest for new zany, cynical, Midwestern talent, I'm your girl. Although I do love teaching and am very fond of my students, what I really want to be when I grow up, even after all these years, is a writer.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

thinking and family and thinking about my family.

I know too much about ...

jerks.

My parents always told me ...

that I seemed to enjoy doing things the hard way.

My childhood ambition ...

was to write the Great American Novel.

My favorite memory ...

is playing on the tire swing at my grandparents' house.

Why I write ...

because it lessens the chance that I will have nervous breakdown.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

shuffle, Frank Sinatra is on now, but at any moment Cake, Wolfmother, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Madonna, Lucinda Williams or Evanescence will take over... I'm reading *Crazy Horse* by Mari Sandoz ... and I don't watch much T.V., though we do rent movies once or twice a week. The last one we watched was *The Dead Girl* and we'll be watching *Stranger Than Fiction* tonight.

My first job ...

was babysitting, if that counts and Wendy's counter girl if we're going to be official.

My best moment ...

is a compilation of many moments - too many to name.

My inspiration ...

people being nice to other people without ulterior motives.

My five-year-old daughter is hyper aware of divorce these days. In recent months three couples she knows rather well have decided to part ways or are struggling to decide whether or not they should stay together.

The other night between books she asked,"Why don't Callie's mom and dad live together?" She noticed Callie's mom dropping her off at her dad's, our neighbor's, house earlier that day.

Oh boy ... Deep breath ...

"Some times ... even mommies and daddies who love each other ... can't live together. Some times if parents argue or fight too much, it's better if they live apart. It's ...
