About me

Inhabitant of the snow-belt in the upper midwest - great lakes region, I'm pretty much an all around loose wing-nut. I write from personal experience, not five minutes of reserach on other internet sites.

I am constantly dismayed and dissapointed by the behavior of my species, yet, because I know some very good people, I remain optimistic that all is not hopeless.

Master carpenter/contractor, sometime boat-builder, small business owner - turned litigation attorney.

When I'm not pouring over insurance policies and insurance coverage cases, my wife and I, our four kids, and a Great Dane wander about the backroads and the national and state forests in a van named "Ed," and we sail the quiet bays in a boat named "Sui Generis."

I approach the world from a "reverse salience bias" point of view. In a nutshell: If we could apprehend the magnitude of our ignorance, we may be able to learn something useful!

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Building wooden boats.

I know too much about ...

Fine print in insurance policies.

My parents always told me ...

Think before you speak. Accordingly, I seldom speak.

My childhood ambition ...

To be dead by the time I was 25 years old.

My favorite memory ...

Falling down, getting up, falling down.

Why I write ...

Because I'm well past 25 and still not dead.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I'm reading insurance policies.

My first job ...

Cleaning the chalkboard during recess, while the other kids were having fun.

My best moment ...

Not too many of those.

My inspiration ...

Kids, before cynicism sets in.

First, check your attitude, mister. Begrudging the snow that falls from the sky is begrudging one of the wonders of our natural world -appreciate it for what it is - an opportunity to spend some quiet time outside in the elements.  With the proper attitude the chore of shoveling snow is much less "work....
