I am a forty-five year old college senior, taking a double major in literature and history at the University of Colorado at Denver. I started writing when I was in junior high, and was surprised when I learned that people could make their living by being writers. I never considered it as a viable profession for myself to pursue until I got laid off and could not find work.
...
Getting laid off was a blessing in disguise for it allowed me to pursue writing and college. For years, I dreamed of doing both, but work and a terrible income were always excuses to not to pursue either one seriously. After I got laid off, I was unemployed for a year. With money running out, I decided to take out student loans and become a college freshman just days before my fortieth birthday.

Much like my father, I found myself drifting towards self-employment. He also turned towards being his own boss after getting laid off. In my case, it is freelance writing. I find that I love researching and writing articles about economics, thanks to a Macroeconomics class I took at the Community College of Denver. I have thought about switching my major to economics, but I am curious about so many things that it is better that I remain a writer, free to explore many passions.

My biggest passion, one that rules much of my free time, is studying Golden Dawn. I am also highly interested in kabbalah and other esoteric sciences. I first got involved in Golden Dawn in 1992 when I learned of the existence of a local GD-based lodge in my neighborhood. I have been an active student of Golden Dawn ever since. In October 2000, I was one of the founding members of a new GD lodge in Denver, CO; I have served as an elected officer since its inception. My current grade in Golden Dawn is Theoricus Adeptus Minor (5=6); I also hold a Administrative Grade from my Mother Lodge.

One of the difficulties in studying the Golden Dawn tradition is that many of its Inner Order teachings have been lost, unpublished, or sometimes never even fully completed, forcing the modern day esoteric Orders that have been built from the Outer Order information (compiled and published by Israel Regardie) and the Adepts connected with these groups, to create their own Inner Order teachings, a major problem for some; Pat Zalewski in his book "Inner Order Teachings of the Golden Dawn" addresses this problem. The book, not to be confused with Zalewski's earlier book, "Secret Inner Order R...
