About me - Angie SanFilippo

About me

I was born in Anderson, Indiana on August 27, 1967. My father's band The Black and Blues decided sometime in 1971 that they wanted to move to Los Angeles to become rock and roll stars. My mom, my dad and the rest of the band picked up and moved to Los Angeles, I've been here every since.

My father's band and my mother's relationship was fairly short lived in Los Angeles. I grew up virtually all over Los Angeles from North Hollywood's original art district in the mid-seventies where my sister and I lived with my father for a number of years, to Hollywood in the late seventies with my mother, to the San Fernando Valley in the eighties where I lived with my father and my sister continued lived with my mother.

I was a crazy adolescent and eventually became a very young mother of two boys by the time I was nineteen from two different males. I rarely if ever refer to their father's as men because they are very sorry examples of what real men are. Although the road was difficult, my children are grown and maybe not where I would like them to be in life; they're also not where I don't want them in life, which at the time, in our world was gangs, drugs, incarceration and death.

I recently became unemployed after working in audio post production for nearly twenty years, which between work, raising my kids and going to school when possible, I haven't written consistently. I feel my universe has forced me out of my profession to give me the opportunity to chase the dream I gave up at seventeen to go to work and raise my child.

I have learned from my life's mistakes and have come out on top. I have known since I could put crayon to paper that I wanted to be a writer. I started keeping journals at a very young age and although I am a writer, the actual writing process has been my downfall. I feel I haven't lived through my life not to write about it.

Politics, News & Issues > US Elections Commentary: Obama's address on race in light of the Rev. Wright comments

Senator Barack Obama said something in his "A More Perfect Union" speech on Tuesday March 18, 2008 that struck a cord with me. He said his story does not make him the most conventional of candidates. I disagree and personally feel Senator Barack Obama represents the United States as a whole, given his family background, better than any candidate who is currently running. Barack is just as much his mother's son, a white woman as he is his father's, a black man. He said he had family of every race and hue across three continents. Let me remind you, the United States is made up of nothing but...
