The reason cows have four stomachs or four chambers is no different in us having one stomach. It all has to do with the digestion of food. Of course we only need one because we do not regurgitate our food and chew it again. Yuck! If we do we have tums and pepto bismol to help us. A cow eats the feed and it is delivered to the large rumen (the feed softens here with a mixture of saliva). She then regurgitates the feed and chews it again. Additional chewing breaks down the feed even more, then it goes directly to the other chambers.
