"DESPICABLE" screamed the headline on the front page of Thursday's "Sun" newspaper.

A journalist had dared to question whether Madeleine McCann's parents were being viewed as possible suspects in her disappearance, causing "The Sun" to leap to their defence.

Of course, the journalist in question was not British. The British media have been whipping up a frenzy over this case from the outset, but far from questioning the McCanns' actions, the couple have almost reached celebrity status.
