Kendo translates literally to "Way of the Sword" ('Ken' meaning 'sword', and 'do' meaning 'path' or 'way'). It is most commonly referred to as Japanese fencing and is a martial art with a long and proud history. Modern Kendo was founded by the Tokyo police attempting to unite the many scattered schools of swordfighting taught throughout the Samurai age in Japan.
