About me - Tanja Zagaschtoko-Mathias

About me

I am a mother of three boys, and a classroom of middle school children.  I am currently teaching 7th graders in the exceptional children program, as a Specific Learning Disabled teacher, specifically in the area of reading, language arts, and mathematics.  I enjoy teaching to students, and learning about them, and their individual styles, and strengths in learning.  I have done some research on learning styles, such a Garner's Multiple Intelligence, and the left handed student.  It is very crucial, as an educator, and a person, to understand individuality and one's potential, so that to enhance their learning.  It s my job as an educator to understand my students, their needs, their strengths, and who they are as a person.  I believe a bond needs to be developed with students which inturn will build trust, and mutual respect and understanding.  These traits, inturn, will help nourish students, and motivate them to reach their potential.  My motto to live by is kindness and compassion for all.

Previously, I worked as a social worker at a domestic violence center, helping homeless women and their children by providing them transitional housing, and support in job searching, and homeownersip.

I have also worked as a ceritified mediator at a dispute resolution center, assisting clients with resolving their situation without using the court system.

I am a researcher in everything I do, whether it be in my job, or in my personal life.  Learning new knowledge should never end.
