About me - Stephanie Sadler

About me

Growing up in New York with an English father and American mother, I was always curious about living abroad. After work experience at Fleet Street Publications and classes in London a few years earlier, I had fallen in love with the city. In 2007, I moved back to London.
.
At university in New York, where I studied marketing and journalism, I was the News Editor for the weekly campus paper. After a stint at promotional writing for a London art gallery, I had a short work experience at The Sunday Times and now work as a Distance Learning Coordinator in Notting Hill. In my spare time, I am the Chief Sub-Editor for the weekly Seven Magazine (www.sevenglobal.org) in London and the Arts, Culture & Travel Editor for a quarterly magazine project called Read This based in Vancouver.
.
I also enjoy wandering aimlessly around London and finding myself in unfamiliar cities with time to explore. I'm interested in culture, human rights and art in all forms, especially photography and loud, live music.
.
My dream is to travel the world and write, but to do that costs more money than it would make, and so I'm here and there and everywhere, taking holidays when I can, writing every day. I blog daily on www.opendiary.com, but my entries are mainly favorites only. I do blog somewhat regularly on www.oceanhopper.blogspot.com as well, and those entries are public. Alternatively, feel free to visit my site at www.abowlofcherries.co.uk

First things first: A cup of tea.

It was a Saturday morning in November, misting with London's signature drizzle, the kind of rain that doesn't feel like a threat until you realize you're absolutely drenched. Umbrella popped up, I skipped over a puddle at the end of the walk and headed toward Portobello Market.

Harrow Road is full of cars and bendy buses, so I slipped behind the brick wall that follows its contour and moseyed through the paths of Kensal Green Cemetery, the aroma of wet dirt playing on the breeze. There was instant peace and calm in the faces of the stone angels and th...
