From 1998 to 2005, I was lucky enough to live in Crownpoint, New Mexico. Crownpoint is the hub of the Eastern Navajo reservation and it is not much of a hub, just a small collection of government buildings, hospital, school, one grocery store,several churches, and a few hundred homes. No banks, no library, no movie house, no "dollar stores." I had relocated to Crownpoint, sight unseen(!), from Baltimore, Maryland where I had completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins Medical School. The two could not have been more different.
