Hello everyone! My name is Donnie Jones. I am a 55-year-old ogre with a "shrek-like" personality. Perhaps a little more complicated and, depending on who you ask, a little more pleasant. I have put "pen to paper" since I used the fat pencils in first grade. I learned early that I could make an enjoyable effort to exploit my wild and variable imagination.
I have been a nurse for 34 years. My occupation supplies me with some interesting "yarns". I only practiced about 7 years. I worked in trauma and saw just about everything you could imagine, but when we lost a child...I started to "burn-out". I went to work for Goodyear as a supervisor for 11 years, had my own business for 10, and worked as a respiratory tech for 10. I achieved my junior year in Psychology. I haven't gotten out of "Skinner's Box" long enough to finish my degree.
I won my first literary award at age 17. I have been published in "Zines", but that's all right now. My favorite genre is horror, but it's nearly impossible to re-invent the vampire and werewolf, so it is a challenging area of work. Helium has made me a better writer.
My email is donnie35776@hotmail.com. My grandmother's last name was Poe. This helped me pick the pen name. I live in a small town called Scottsboro, Alabama. A small town with a lot of negative history. However, we are home to writers such as Babs and Borden Deal, William Bradford Hughey, and William Heath. I think all have had works produced as motion pictures. Mr. Heath stands out in my mind as having written, "Violent Saturday"; Mr. Hughey wrote, "Wild River"; and, any reader is familiar with the Deals.
