Ben Morton has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Drama, and has been a co-editor and contributing writer for the annual literary anthology entitled Tales From the Upper Room since its inception in 2005. He has had a number of short stories published, including 'Table Nine', 'The Tale of Alathimble Spayd', and 'The Bus Stop'. He also has a published play script called 'The Business of Monkeys', and various poems as well. Over the past ten years He Has obtained certificates in Ministry, Christian Studies, Multimedia Design and a Bachelor of Art in Drama and Creative Writing. He has been working for eight years as an cartoon/illustrations artist. During the earlier part of that time, he has also both studied youth work, and been practically involved in working with young people in church and non-church related settings. he also inflicts himself on amateur theatre groups from time to time, and occasionally auditions for film roles. he will probably do something really interesting with his life, if he ever finds time for one.
Solitary Tree A hundred horrid ants crawl one by one, across the blackened bark, The irritating fly, as always, is accompanied by ten more like it, The galahs screaming, a hysterical noise overhead, Like a barely contained riot, they squabble amongst the sparse leaves. A great sea of grey salt bush encircles a solitary tree, No good thing from useless little hills for miles in every direction. The kangaroos making themselves at home, in from the heat of the day, They rest themselves as they please in the shade of the solitary tree. Strangely camouflaged, the tree, stark amid the open scrub...
