Living in Hull on the East coast of Yorkshire England means we have, in June 2007, suffered the worst floods we have ever seen. They were nothing compared to many countries and were not sustained, but they have affected some people's lives dramatically. It will be two years before things get back to normal for some. As it is supposedly the height of summer here now, tell me we are not suffering from climate change and the shifting seasons.
I have decided to leave the above, although it is now October 2007. Today has been unseasonally warm and, lovely though it is, it is not normal weather. My new photo is me in silly sun-hat on a day trip to Seville this Summer. The hat was very necessary as it was 39 degrees centigrade. Now that's HOT.
Well I am still leaving all of the above as, today 12th January 2008, we are still waiting for work to commence on the flood damage in our home. See my insurance nightmare review. It does look as if there may be some work imminent and when we finally get somewhere I will change this about me. Let's see if it is still here in 2009 !
Well on 15th March I thought I would update this saga slightly. We are now living in a caravan on our small front garden. Who would have thought that I would spend my 56th birthday doing that.Well not me for one! The downstairs of the house has had much of its plaster removed we have drying equipment all over the place and so I suppose things are moving on a little. In order to house the caravan we needed our garden wall demolishing and the larger shrubs and a tree cutting down. It is all rather soul destroying but hopefully it will all be worth it.
Update on 25th April 2008.
Well the house is officially classed as dry now but we are now waiting on the builders. The reinstatement quote needs to be sent to the insurers and approved in order for work to start. I can't wait to get back into the house and some sort of normality.
24th May 2008.
So here we are still waiting. The builders are due to start some work this week. Nothing has really happened in the month since my last up date but at least the weather is better now and we can use our rear garden at times.
29th May 2008
The builders have lifted the floor today and hopefully restoration work will start next week. Seeing the flash floods on television today, which have hit Somerset, I really feel for them and can only hope that we will not have the same weather as last year. If we do I cannot envisage when we will be able to move back into our home.
It is now 25th October 2008. I gave up on keeping a log re the building works but would just like to say that we finally moved back into our home on 26th September 2008. From May to September life was full of ups and downs with plenty of stress and exasperating moments. In the end if we had not pushed and set a firm date for moving in I guess we would stil be in that caravan. I have learned many lessons this year but hope that I will never be in that position, or worse, again ever.

When you open your Sunday morning newspaper the tiny, adorable face of a four legged angel looks back at you. Reading the accompanying text you discover that this little sweetie has been neglected and then abandoned. You know that you could easily offer this animal a much needed home with plenty of love, and so you hot foot it down to the local rescue centre without given the matter a second thought. Hang on though. Have you really considered all of the possible scenarios and what owning a pet actiually entails for the responsible owner?.
Here some of the considerations which you really n...
