I met my girlfriend in 1989. She had escaped from an abusive husband with her child and was staying with a friend as she waited for housing. The husband was terrorizing the woman who was providing my girlfriend sanctuary. The first time that I saw the husband was when he threw his son at my girlfriends friend knocking her down. The last two decades have opened my eyes to the dysfunctional justice system of this country.

In hindsight I should not have gotten involved. I expected that the courts would side with her, as she had experienced decades of abuse, was seeking aid from social services, counseling and help from friends. Instead the husband became a "born again" Christian, retained an attorney that believed women were "chattle" and five years later this was over. Retained counsel did not bother to use the material to support their clients position or refute the Christian attorneys lies. Some of the lies that this attorney was claiming were, no separation, deserted the child and stalking was coincidence. The documents available were social service records, police report of separation and so forth. What was interesting about this is that these attorneys did not bother to research the merit of this material. We know this because my girlfriend continued seeing her counselors and they would ask when the attorney would contact them - none of the four attorneys retained during this period did. If the attorneys did not bother with this willing asset what else did they overlook ?

In 1995, months after the divorce was finished, a neighbors dog bites my girlfriend as she is walking in the community. The neighbor was a medic that promised to treat the injury, he did not, the injury got worse - this attorney, after five years, deserted absconding with their clients settlements (Washington Post June 1, 2000).

The end of 2004 my girlfriend had a breakdown, the institution treating her messed up her medication, requiring several trips to the Emergency Room. On the way home from ER visit, medication was prescribed so we stopped at a CVS store. I was assaulted by the police and we were both arrested. The CVS store had video cameras throughout, again the attorneys did not bother with ascertaining the merit of this material. The attorneys strategy was to convince us to take a deal. What is interesting is the blockades that were put up to cover up the incident. Why didnt these authorities get the video and execute due diligence - using evidence prove me guilty or innocent ? I know what they did in our case, what are they doing with other cases ?

It goes on, we are apparently not "clients of choice"....
