About me

As a youngster, I could hardly wait to learn to read and write, and once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed the latter! While in school, I achieved very high grades in Creative Writing, Speech Writing, and many art classes, including Commercial Art.

After marrying my husband and the birth of our three children, I had the pleasure of seeing my work in print! My crochet designs were featured on the covers of national publications including "Crochet World" and their annual "Best Of Crochet World".

Finally, I discovered Helium and have enjoyed the creative outlet. Also, since I love sharing with others, writing for Helium has filled that aspect as well.

On a more personal note, I am a mother of three, a grandmother of seven, and live on a small farm with my husband. Our children and their families live as close neighbors.

I care very deeply about people and animals, and I've always been intrested in the arts ... writing, visual arts, performing arts, fiber arts, and a variety of crafts. I have also been passionate about knowing basic home survival skills, such as raising gardens, preserving produce, making soap, raising animals for their fiber and spinning it into yarn, and so forth. In short, I'm a practical person with down to earth values.

Not only is the young person looking to the adult for a steady arm of reassurance, but they are also depending on the grown-up to know how best to handle the situation. A panicked adult will only serve to upset the child while at the same time, the adult may lose the ability to make good decisions as to how to help.

One example of how children pick up on the adult's demeanor may be illustrated by a minor incident that happened to a neighbor's five year old son many years ago. He, his mother, and I were...
