About me

Writing is at the core of who I am. From the very moment I constructed my very first written sentence writing has been my preferred means of self expression. At age 8 I was published for the first time in a local paper when I took first place in a citywide poetry contest for mothers day. That blessed event served not only to swell my little head, but showed me that not only could my writing be an outlet for the thoughts swirling in my mind, but it could bring me recognition and praise - something I was starving for. I continued writing through all my school years; contributing to the school newspaper as well as any other publication I could submit my work to.

Eventually I entered Lane Community College in Eugene Oregon as an English major, and excelled; standing out against my fellow students in creative writing. Unfortunately, my financial situation, coupled with several undiagnosed (at the time) disorders forced me to drop out of college, and enter the work force.

I took a job as an order picker in a craft warehouse, and quickly worked my way up to the position of purchasing agent. Suddenly I found myself writing again when the owner of the company asked me to start composing catalog descriptions for our products which led to authoring the companies monthly newsletter. When the company went out of business in 1998 I decided to obtain my insurance license and sell auto insurance. For the next five years I worked for GEICO and was one of the companies top producing agents from 2003 to 2005.

In 2006 I suffered a complete nervous breakdown, and found myself institutionalized after several failed suicide attempts. I was diagnosed with Bi-polar 1 - With psychotic tendencies, ADD, PTSD, and Schizo-affective disorder and declared permanently disabled.

Today I am back on my feet, stable, and functional with the help of counselling and medication. Writing has taken center stage in my life once again and I am back in college, enrolled as an English major once again.
