About me - Mel Bergen

About me

I began writing for the web in January, 2007, although I have been writing for myself since I could hold a pencil. I've finally discovered the joys of not only getting my work read (and getting paid for my efforts) but receiving feedback from readers so that I can improve my skills.

I have two blogs, linked to the right. On one I explore the mechanics of writing and grammar and on the other I post daily song recommendations and reviews. I also have a few dozen lenses at Squidoo, containing article on everything from healthy cooking to urban sprawl.

In non-writing matters, I am a working mom of two, married to a wonderful man, living in a menagerie of pets.

My childhood ambition ...

was to be a writer. I'm getting there. : )

Why I write ...

because I need to. I have to get all of these ideas out of my head and onto a screen so that I can understand and work with them. How else can I improve my mind without taking everything out and giving it a good scrubbing now and then?

My inspiration ...

comes from the world around me. Everything I read or see or hear can be fodder for an article.

The key to rewarding desired behavior is in not promising anything. The behavior should be expected at all times. Rewards beyond praise for b...
