In the US there is a long standing tradition of selectively enforcing our laws. Sometimes a law is just not worth enforcing, and sometimes it is out-dated. For example most drivers will tell you that it is okay to drive 5 MPH above the speed limit, and most officers won't mess with pulling you over unless you are 10 or more MPH above the speed limit. Of course when you are pulled over you pay the full fine even though the first 5 shouldn't really count. So with immigration, we have to decide which laws we want to enforce and which ones are not worthwhile. ...
