```Kathleen, The Person:
Having your articles and photographs published is a "gift." It is a skill that can be used to change the world in positive ways.
I consider myself half teacher and half writer. I am able to share (teach) information through my writing, and my creative writing workshops.
One of my most memorable moments was speaking in front of a crowd of a University's Communication Department professors and the local media at a Journalism Award Ceremony and saying directly to that "perfect audience" that there are two kinds of people who can teach the world how to make good decisions: the first being teachers and the second being journalists. These two professions influence our lives in profound ways..."The pen is mightier than the sword."
I use my skills as a writer to help make the world a better place. I've seen my articles profoundly change large institutions to individual volunteers. I try to bring out the "inner light" of the person I am writing about... what makes them tick ...what makes them happy ...and, what will spark the reader's interest.
```Kathleen, The Student
After spending several years learning the in's and out's of the business world, I decided to get into the profession I felt I was born to do: writing and photography. I attended Journalism school, where I was active in setting up SPJ and WICI clubs, writing for the school paper, interning at newspapers, and winning the graduation class Journalist of the Year award.
```Kathleen, The Professional
I have remained a member of SPJ since my school days because of their commitment to integrity in the profession, and freedom of the press. I have received numerous awards from Women in Communication (WICI), Society of Professional Journalist and Denver Press Women for feature writing, specialty articles, several columns, a book and photojournalism. Plus Leadership awards, grants and scholarships.
Consistent jobs in the media have given me a clear understanding of who, what and where I do best. I have enjoyed writing for magazines, and for daily, bi-weekly, and monthly newspapers.
While I have written for a number of publications for a length of time, I have chosen to remain a freelance writer, in order to preserve my choice of subject matter and audience. This allows me to enjoy devoting extensive amounts of time to research and/or the perfection of my articles.
```Kathleen, Work Personality
As a professional journalist, the basics are adhered to: meeting deadlines, checking for accuracy of facts and grammar/spelling,educating the reader while also making it enjoyable to read, adhering to the publications requirements, such as word count, and more. Understanding the need to develop the right material for the right audience is essential.
```Kathleen, Educator and Speaker
I have been teaching workshops since 1991 in public venues, and started teaching creative writing, journaling and wellness workshops at my mountainside retreat in 1998, Spring Time Writers. I feel comfortable in teaching and lecturing for large groups or with one person. It is important for the student to have the balance of learning in a friendly atmosphere and having their educational needs fulfilled.
Thanksgiving may have started with Pilgrims and Indians being thankful for the harvest, and it may today involve family, football and turkey, but the true universal meaning of the holiday is to give thanks. While giving thanks for food, health, home, family and friends is priority, people might consider extending their thanks, in the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday, to include those invisible people whom we “don’t see,” and those personal castoffs whom we “don’t want to see.” There is a wide circle of invisible people whom we “don’t&n...
