About me

About me, I am a certified vetassistant who specialises in Reptiles, Small animals and Horses. I have spent more of my life in Reptiles and the other half is now with Horses which has now become a big part of my life with a small part of it with small animals like the Rats, mice and other small animals. I worked at a Pet Store before entering the Military.

I also worked as a Barn Manager assistant as well as a barn manager and gave lessons to children about riding and care of horses. I love these remarable animals called horses just a bit more than my reptiles in how they can read people. I have always been very good with animals. I loved to read the book Black beauty as it spoke from a horse's point of view.

I was able to own my first horse at the age of 18 years old. He was a mustang stallion but currently he is now a gelding. He taught me to go back to what I loved learning about and that is natural Horsemanship not just any kind  but ones that actually resemble to me true natural not by no bits or spurs but actually to the root which is Native american training. Sure the Spanish and us taught the Natives to ride but they loved animals and respected the horse and learned their own way of working along side these animals. There are 2 that I take bits and peices from and that is Gawani Pony Boy and Pat Parelli and then some from my experiences I also follow their principles.

I don't beleive in force or tiring. My reptile experience has been with mostly florida reptiles and N.H wildlife other than reptiles. I used to catch reptiles and I.D them for home owners when they wanted a snake gone. I also worked in the pet store I have used the methods I use on my horse to work with the reptiles which I get a better resonse from. I have also bred and cared for Rats which I beleive they are one of the best pets by far for a small animal. I am hopefully going to start my rettery back up since I loved the people I met when I would breed and sell as well as the happy customers I had that loved my rats. I have owned Leopard Geckos and Green Iguanas. I have rescued and have worked with a sanctuary.

I am a strong advocate fo no slaughter houses since we as humans need to be responsible with our animals and horses are a fine line of companion animal and livestock.

They are our family as Sage and the new addition Pebbles. Sage I feared he would be sent to slaughter if I let him go. I was 18 an dno job when I aquired him I was lucky ot have a friend who hired me as a Barn manager assistant so I could work and take care of Sage who needed me to take time out with him. The next job and his move was to a pasture that was free pasture board that included me to still feed and water. When I got a job at the pet store I only made $7.50 per hour. At that time I could only afford sandwiches for myself and grain.

Thankfully Sage was an easy keeper. Sage was about 5 years old I was given my first saddle by my parents who were not rich who actually put some money together to get me a saddle.  The halter I aqcuired from my friend the bridles were usually broken halter bridle combos that I made into just bridles. They usually msmatched since some parts were broken on others. I then moved to another job and Sage moved to the barn of that job. By then he was about 6 years old and we dealt with alot of scrutiny. I don't have much money I have learned never be picky. Sage is an easy horse to the ones he loves.

But because of his attitude the owner wanted me to get rid of him and I refused. She wanted me to get a paso but a paso in my mind is like a sports car which I have no money to afford. The lady ended up firing me not understanding why I kept this horse and why I hadn't ridden him in a while. Slow and steady wins the race as I always say as well as where there's a will there's a way. We then went to a boarding facility where my mom helped pay for the first month until I could find a job. Don't think my parents rich cause they are not.

This horse is loved and probably some would call us crazy but we love him. The boarding place we picked was right next to the RV park so it was convenient and Sage got his own stall for $200 a month wth turn out. Sage and me started to ride and get a feel for one another riding. Saeg was great althoughhe hadn't been ridden since the first barn. I got him readdy for my goal to do drill team. Our dream came true as I was fired from my job I had no money for the board so my friend being the great friend as she was came to take Sage to her barn till I could get back on my feet. Sage and her don't get along too well. We found a pasture board down the street of my friends barn so I caould stick around.

Sage was about 8 years old then. We got readdy for our first drill team as we wait in the ring Everybody was kinda nervous knowing him from when he had arrived as a BLM  mustang 4 years ago.  We did our routine with out too much of a problem with Sage except he would get weary behind one mare's rear end as we have to be nost to tail when entering but he soon realised it was ok. Then at 9 years old he ended up throwing out his hip and us thinking it was the saddle my friend gave me the one you see in my profile pic. I then joined the military since jobs became scarce and since my dad was in the military seeme dlike the irght choice. When I get out I will be going back to my veterinary for large animals.

I just don't see the reason since I knew when I said yes to my friend it is the equivalent of saying I do at the alter it is a commitment. I knew money may be short at some point but I knew who liked my horse who may take him. Parelli even takes horses to use in his program sometimes. So I do call the people who get a horse either they wanted the horse as a status pet or something to use but not to love. All the things I explained I never had much money my parents the same Every one around me had pretty good parents with alot of money or enough to get their kid a very nice expensive new Dressage saddle. Me I made it by managing the money around my horse since he became a commitment and a luxury and since this luxury isn't a movie and living and breathing I cannot believe to let him go hungry when I decide to spend money on a movie ticket. I say my life  is boring to what people think but I just decided I wanted to do the best I could for him. I only went to see a movie when I already knew I got Sage covered for the month for feed. Sure sometimes I would go to Hot Topic and buy Tripp pants but that was usually only like once a year and sales. I would also trade off working with a horse to get feed or a stall. I know a few who work their damnest off to keep their horse even with a big family they do it. One I know is a trainer and cleaning service. Some shouldn't have decided to have a horse at all or atleast have supervision like children.

I love all horses but I have one horse that I love but dislike how they are bred and that is the American Quarter Horse. They are an american breed but look what we done to them we made them have many genetic disorders we inbreed them. How is it we try to breed out hip dysplasia or any other breed defect we try to get away from and yet we allow breeders to subject their horses to the breed defects that they have. I probably would fall in love with these remarkable horse but I cannot condone the breeding of them when their lines are not clean. I actually do not buy any product that is associated with the breed association.

Pets & Animals > Animal Rights & Issues Is horse slaughter a viable solution to the unwanted horse problem?

I cannot even see how slaughter is the best way since people who over breed or people who breed in general just to breed are the reason we are over populated if we bring back slaughter then those people get to keep doing what they are doing and countless horses are killed because of us. Remember these horses are here because of us and our doing. It wasn't them who came on the ships to the new world. It is us who should become more responsible we don't slaughter our dogs or cats or other pets who seem to be over populating our areas and filling shelters. Maybe we should have breeding licens...
