About me - Lisa Larsen

About me

I have been a professional writer and proof reader for eighteen years. In that time I have written radio advertisement copy, research papers, magazine articles for BIKE, USA Today and Dirt Rag, newspaper articles for Florida Today, and short stories published in Glimmer Train, Lullwater Review and several other literary magazines. I have written over thirty-five short stories, and won awards for both fiction and poetry. Recently I have been involved with search engine optimization which involves writing strong clean content for my client's web sites and blogs, endeavoring to increase the site's credibility, and consequently its page rank. Writing for SEO purposes is challenging in that my writing must appeal first to the folks reading the Web page, but also to the various Web crawlers utilized in the search process. It's the proverbial man against machine, and I love it!

I am an avid researcher, able to write knowledgably about nearly any topic. Learning new things is one of my passions and there's no better way to achieve knowledge than through research. I have a master's degree in education, and a bachelor's degree in graphic design. I have taken four creative writing courses at our local college, and attended numerous writers' workshops. There's always more to know!

I am a single mother of six kids, sharing my little beach bungalow with four of them, plus three guinea pigs, three cats, a dog and a house rabbit. I own and operate a landscape/lawn care business with my two oldest sons. I enjoy surfing, camping, writing, reading and hanging out with my kids. Life is good and getting better!

It is the Washington Palm, also known as the Petticoat Palm, from Florida. This robust palm attains great heights, sometimes as much as eighty feet. It gets the name of Petticoat...
